I've had a couple of hours to mess with this new X2-3600 today, and thought I'd play with the multi's a little. I tried dropping to 9x to start with and the FSB crapped out around the 320mhz mark. I then dropped the multi to x8, memory to 400mhz divider and got this.....

It's the highest A64 FSB I've personally seen. I'm sure there are others out there aswell. Anyone else out there hitting this high?

Any temp issues on the Northbridge at all?

Impressive!

Thanx. No probs so far.....I have a 2x cold air pipes from outside sitting on the ram and heatpipe's fins.

Very nice!

That was with Chipset Volts of 1.6V and LDT of 1.3V

Sadly this board's BIOS doesn't allow me to up the chipset voltages. So I guess I'll have to work with what I got.

what motherboard is that?

X2 3800+ @ 2.75 (was Running at 2.8Ghz but not 100% rock solid)
2Gb of GeIL Ram
ASUS A8R32-MVP

Good 1 mate. I had an X2-3800 (939) which topped out at 2620mhz. Then an X2-3800 (AM2) which crapped at 2520mhz..both under wc...in this very mobo

I've had no luck at all with any of the 38's :(

mmmmmmm, love it.

Also whats the two bars u have at the top and right??
They look like Linux, but it looks like windows ?!?!

Cheers

It's just toolbars I made myself mate. If you create a folder and drag it partially off the edge of your desktop and let go, a toolbar will appear. You can customize the title, text and size to suit. Any shortcuts you place in the folder you created will appear on the toolbar :)

very nice cloks tho, and love the WC.
reminds me of the cooling tower my friend and i devised from b&q scrap bin. managed to hold ambient water temps at a 48hr nonstop lan xD

heheee gotta love ghetto cooling mods :)

SOLDNER-MOFO64 is that vista ??

or a skin for XP, not seen vista yet, kinda waiting a year before i make the jump....

Yeah it's Vista mate. X86 (32bit)

Not tried lowering the HT multiplier lower than that yet, and not tried the RAM at a lower divider.

Tbh, this board has never been great at clocking (AN8-SLi).

I've seen a few go 3Ghz plus on that ABIT mobo. I think you'll defo see more FSB with HTx at 3x and maybe drop a memory divider aswell. Which memory do you have....DDR500 or 600?

Also, what cooling you runnin'....stock HSF?

Anyone got any ideas why multipliers don't seem to work with my CPU?

I thought all A64's allowed you to choose lower fsb multipliers than stock?

Are you dropping your FSB back to stock when you attempt to switch multi's?

If not your ram speed will increase as a result.

Like this.....

No, what I mean is, say for instance I set 315x6.0 in the BIOS for the CPU, I can set that no problem, reboot and go into bios where it will report CPU speed as 1890MHz, no problem.

Continue to boot into windows, and low and behold it craps out. I find this odd as the CPU is well below stock speed, anyway, assuming it was the FSB, I set 275x8 = 2200MHz. I know my CPU can do that speed with ease, and I know my mobo can be stable at that FSB.

Bios reports 2200MHz in uGuru, get into windows (Vista Ultimate x32), and CPUz reports that my CPU is at 275x10! It doesn't matter what I set the multi to in the bios, windows always reports 10!

:(

Hmmm that's weird.....is this with the HTx at 4x yeah? That'd explain the crapping out early as your HTT speed would be 315x4 (1260mhz). Still it doesn't explain the cpu multi. You flashed with latest BIOS yeah?
What Vcore you runnin' also?

No, dropped the HTT multi to 3x. The problem now is that my CPU is going beyond its maximum due to me not being able to change the multi.

HTT Multiplier and FSB:DRAM make no difference to whether it will boot or not. I can drop the RAM right down to 187MHz so I know its not that, and the HTT is way way below 1000MHz, so its not that either.

CPU limit all because multipliers don't seem to work :(

EDIT: was running 1.475v vcore, tried 1.5v vcore no difference.

And I am on the latest BIOS.

That IS nutz. Have you tried dropping your multi once in windows VIA Ai BOOSTER....to see if it applies?

paradigm said:
Never used AI booster, never even heard of it.

Only thing I am doing is raising FSB with ClockGen (to get around the 275+ FSB boot problem), and setting memory timings with A64Tweaker.

EDIT: AI Booster is for asus boards is it not?

Won't work on an abit surely?

EDIT2: Dunno if uGuru for Abit boards let you change multi, but I can't run uGuru because the version for my board doesn't support vista :(

yeah Ai booster is ASUS software but you never know. Failing that you can try A64info beta from here http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=96678
it's worth a try since your UGURU doesn't work.

Have you tried compatability mode in vista? Run UGURU under XPsp2 compatability......might be a workaround.

Will give A64info a run when I get home. Unfortunately there is no workaround for uGuru on vista, it needs direct access to the hardware which the new HAL stops completely. :(

Slowly getting higher though, managed to get 3Dmark06 to run at 260fsb now (score updated on your thread). Going to install XP tonight on another HDD and see if the multiplier works properly then. Might get back to 335fsb :D

ok buddy....best of luck :)

Had a quick blast with A64Info 0.63beta just now and I can confirm that the multipliers DO work if set with A64info! Just had my machine running at 366x7, tried to push for 385x6, but as far as I could tell, the memory bummed out (running at DDR333 divider) as it would have been up at 315MHz~ by this point and that is too far for it.

Doesn't seem to like running the DDR266 divider, so need a play with voltages and switching dividers at the right speeds to get my memory at its maximum.

Going to push for a CPUqueen benchmark at 385MHz tomorrow, perhaps even try and get CPUz verified at 400+

Jammin'.....good to hear mate. Best of luck :)

I love your watercooling setup, best I have ever seen :D:D

Thanx mate......I'm considering gettin' round to polishing the res just so's it looks all nice and shiny.....will post pic's once I sort it.
