Well, during this recent heatwave, my gaming has been intrupted by the odd random BSOD or crash to desktop, not good in the middle of a DOD:S league match

I suspected heat was the problem and using ATI tool I have seen my graphics card Temp hit 82 DegC.

This worried me so I cobbled an extra case fan together and positioned it below the card blowing more air over the cooler. seemed to work ok last night, got the temp down to 74Deg C.

So my question is, what is the Maximum safe temp for these cards.
is 82 Deg C Excessive?

What have you guys seen when working your GFX card hard ?

Should I start to think of improved cooling ?

7800GT and 77c using the ati tool artifact tester, my old 6800gt was mentally hot like high 80's

If you have a temperature tab in your nvidia control panel then it should say the threshold temperature, mine is 115C which it should start to throttle down at that point to lower the temperature

my 6800 GT is currently running at 70 idle, must admit it was reading 78 yesterday so decidced itmight be an idea to see if my case fans had much dust on them, they were very dusty, got rid of the dust and temps went right down :)

My 7800GT gets to 80C most of the time without issue, my old 6800NU ran at 103C for a few months.

Maybe the BSOD's you get are CPU or memory related?

holy hell, my 7600GTs are 40*C idle clocked at 655Mhz, under load that won't go above 55 - 60*C i wouldn't think, god bless 90nm manufacturing technology. think i would be able to breach 700Mhz with watercooling and voltmod?

Edit: its currently 44*C idle and temperature outside is 31.5*C, its bloody warm today for tyneside

I don't think it is CPU related, it is at 1.5 V and 2.6GHz and when I originally clocked it (although in December / January) the load temps were all pretty good, I have an AC Pro 64 cooler not the stock cooler.

I also thought about the RAM and had the Direct cooling (additional case Fan) directed on those to begin with, I just saw the figure forthe GFX card and went  and repositioned it to help that.

I didn't have any issues last night with this aditional fan, be it on the RAM or the GFx card, so hopefully it will get me through this hot spell.

I guess thats the trouble of clocking in the dark Winter months,..Temp in OCCT and Prime will not be an issue (unless you clock over and beyond),..24 7 in 30+ DegC ambient however is another matter :(

My 7800GTX was toastily churning along at 105c under load other day, and thats with a zalman vf700

idleing around 50c now with 30c room temp (every window in house open and 2 fans in my room blowing  )
