hmm, tough call, the 7800gs++(7900gt) is good but its still a 79 series card in disguise so it still has the reliability issue of 79 series cards.

the x1950xt has a seriously higher power consumption than the 7800gs++ but there are no reports of mass failures so the reliability is good.

the x1950xt runs a damn sight hotter though and it only has 256mb memory on it where the 7800gs++ has 512.

im not gonna take responsibility for recommending any one of those 2 for you. ill let others do that, there is another option though which i took to get best of both worlds:
the x1950pro, cost me around 80quid for a agp 512mb model, it has a lot less power consumption than the x1950xt and runs cooler too.
its a step down from the other 2 in terms of raw performance but thought id add it to your list as a backup option or something.

but out of those other 2, the x1950xt and the 7800gs++ its a tought call, if they have solved the failure problem of the 79 series then its the one i would go for. but if its still nackered and you need the best agp card you can get then the only other option is the x1950xt, although the 256mb may sting you a bit.

for agp cards 512mb ram is best since you want to shove as much as you can into the cards onboard memory so it doesn't have to hit the agp bus much.

i hear the pro's are really good. read a lot on here,

what is the 7950GT? and are they up to much?

Clock rate - 550MHz
Memory Clock - 1.2GHz
Memory - 512MB
Type - GDDR3
Memory Bus - 256bit
Bus Type - AGP

hmm, did not know about the 7950 agp, looks like a clock bumped version of the 7900gt.
if its in your price bracket then its good to get, but do check for reviews or user experience about it, its still a 79 series card at the end of the day so the reliability is questionable.
