Just got a HD 3870 after i sent my HD3850 back on RMA (which i am very pleased with!) I am considering an OC but wanted to know what the max temp should be as it only runs a single slot cooler. Also on the subject of coolers... Is there an aftermarket cooler for these cards?

Probably 90C. That's what my HD3850 used to hit on its default fan profile.
As for aftermarket cooler, i use a vf900 which is perfect as its much quiter at 100% compared to the stock fan. You could also probably install the accelero s1 with a couple of fans or a thermaltake duorb.

Did you land up with a single slot cooler version?
I recently got one. Didn't even realise there were some that came as single slot. Almost sent it back.
With an OC up to 850 core and 1225 memory, mine maxes around 77. Higher than I would like, but not enough for me to spend more money on a cooler.
