Highly irritating monitor problem

I have an Acer Nitro XV272UPbmiiprzx. It's got an annoying problem where the monitor will reset itself (as if it had been completely switched off, and not just lost signal) every 15 seconds or so... but for 5 minutes before it "warms up".

However it' an intermittent problem and yesterday it didn't do it at all! So I am nervous about RMAing it (to a competitor) and it not playing up!

It's not the power cable and as far as I can tell the physical on off switch and standby switch appear to be working fine.

Any ideas about what could be wrong?

yes the cables are fine, I've tried all the inputs (HDMI 1 and 2 and DP) and different sources (PC and PS4). It does it with any source and it's as if it is losing power. It only started on Thursday, friday it was fine (used all day for work), this morning it's doing it again.
