Hey all, i just got this product-(( http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=TH-000-AC&groupid=701&catid=57&subcat=27 ))- and my temps on my cpu dropped by 10'C, i didnt realise i had so much cra% left over on my cpu/heatsink from the last re-seat.
If your concerned about bad temps and all your equipment is properley setup you have most likely got old residue left over on your cpu/heatsink.
Anyway just thought id recommend as i was quite amazed by this little product and its quite cheap too :)

I tried some of that, it's basically the same as Arctic Citrus cleaner followed by some IPA . . . just a lot more expensive! :o

You say you knocked 10°C off your load temps! . . . what was you cleaning off? bit of kebab or? :D

It's more likely to be the dust that came off when you removed the HS, or that you did a better job of applying the thermal paste. Either that or the kebab theory above :p

Well the first time i cleaned my cpu/heatsink both were left with a sort of grey shine, after i took them off yesterday and cleaned them with that arcticlean fluid they both came up bright silver and the cloth was dirty as hell from thermal paste i thought i got off completely before hand.
Its worth it in all honesty as it cleans amazingly.

That 'grey shine' is the TIM filling all the small imprefections in the surface of the integrated heat spreader. It's a good thing. It's sort of a lazy man's lapping technique.

Removing it is generally a bad idea.

Companies will sell you anything. I am really pleased for you that you have seen an improvement, but I certainly wouldn't want anyone to get the idea that cleaning their CPU with this stuff will yield a 10C drop in temperature.

The most effective TIM remover I know of at the moment is Cif bathroom cleaner. A spot of that on a cloth will bring your IHS or cooler base up a treat, and you can clean the bath with it afterwards.

But I would still hold the 'grey shine' is good, and you should leave it there.

What are other people's thoughts on this method? I was just about to order some of this Arcticlean stuff until I saw this thread as I will be reseating when my new case comes and I'm fairly sure I will have a lot of gunk to get rid of becase I applied a little too much TIM on my last mount. Can anyone else recommend this cif method?

I'm not recommending you use Cif. It just happens to work an absolute treat. I would just take off the excess until you get the 'grey shine'.

i use the artic bits and they work well i have had the same bottles for about 10 changes so is not that expensive. it gets my lapped cpu mirror every time so cant complain.

Has anyone tried Akasa TIM clean?

If so, how does it fair against Arcticlean?
That's what I've used for years (works well) and is basically the same as Arcticlean #1 bottle (although the Akasa gives you ten times as much!).

A CPU/GPU/Chipset cleaning kit can be put together for about £12 and will last for years!

  1. Akasa Citrus on bog roll >> Soak >> clean clean
  2. IPA on Bog roll >> clean clean blow
  3. IPA on lint free cloth >> clean clean blow
  4. Done
