Highs and lows of 2007?

Low: The 13,000,000 threads proclaiming BioShock as "Th3 best game eva!!1one!!eleven!@1!" when it was launched.

High: COD4.

~Planet Earth - Bluray - I sat watching this at my friends, While house sitting, And I have to say if you've never seen it, You don't know what Bluray is capable of. It is BEAUTIFUL. You do see the odd scene that was shot low res, But on the most part, It really makes you want to get off your ass and visit the worlds beauties.

Glad you like it, it is a stunning example of what hi-def is capable off

HIGHS

Crackdown - Loved this to bits
Lego Star Wars - OK an old game but only just played it and can't get enough of it
Mass Effect - A stunning game
New York - Celebrating ten years of marriage in the big apple
Wii - Walking out of the shop with a smug grin looking at people and saying its the last one

LOWS

XBOX 360 - I love this console but why does it have to sound like a harrier jump jet???
HALO 3 - Teach me to believe the hype
Wii Sports - Getting beat by my 5 year old son at bowling not good

High:

UT3 (pc) - Long time fan, predesessor made me fall in love with online gaming
Darkness (360) - Massive surprise hit for me, didn't even see it coming.
Halo 3 - was great fun playing it through with a mate on hardest difficulty, then collecting everything to get the Hyabusa armour
Bioshock - Awesome
Orange box - So much fun
COD 4 - Surprise hit!
Gears of War - As good as I hoped it was gonna be, awesome visuals

(seems I have shot many a bullet this year :p )

Low
Crysis - was as pants as I expected, but bought it anyways to see what the fuss was about
Assasin's Creed - Dull snore fest, was really looking forward to this.
Forza 2 - got bored very very soon into the game

HIGHS

Bioshock - Atmospheric, well developed and engrossing. Graphically excellent, and a good amount of game play. Couldn't put it down, playing it through again now.

CoD4 - Great follow on from CoD2, didn't play CoD3 so was pleasantly surprised with this. AC-130 mission still the most fun out of all of them.

Guitar Hero 3 on Wii
- I will do that Dragonforce track one day :D

ET:QW - Dragged me back into online gaming, just a shame there's not a bigger online following really. Also a shame that a lot of Wolfenstein purists are a bit anti it too, think that's contributed to it's lack of success. Either way, love it loads which leads me to...

TF2 - Top banana multi player, just pips ET:QW to my favourite online gamer of the year.

Cryengine2 - For it's potential, it's an amazing engine.

Resi Evil 4 on Wii - Great game to play through with a group of people taking it in turns and working out what to do, another testament to the Wii's ability to make a single player game a group effort.

LOWS

Crysis - Utterly ruined by the hype machine and the CEO's lies, still not completed it. Can't bring myself to until they sort out the performance issues.

HL2: Ep2 - Wasn't a patch on HL2 or EP1, all that waiting and again masses of hype for a floppy lifeless game that was over before it started. Storyline was good, but it wasn't enough to make up for the samey game play. Hoping Valve learn lessons from this and make a wonder out of EP3 then knock the franchise on the head before it turns into the gaming version of 24.

Highs:

PGR4 - Great improvement on the series, it's what PGR3 should have been all along.

Bioshock - A really refreshing enviroment with a great atmosphere.

Halo 3 - My best gaming experience in a long time, co-oped it in a day non-stop with my cousin, great fun.

PES 2008 - The first football game I've enjoyed since World Cup '98 on the Saturn, I've not had lag problems playing with my friends, so I love it.

Lows:

None, I'm not a whinging git, I just buy promising games and enjoy them ;)

Highs

Getting a 360 for starters, after putting it off for so long due to IMO not much released in the 1st year that I really needed and its breaking down a lot, but I took the plunge and have not regretted it since :)

PGR4 - Brilliant way to bow out from Bizarre, still probably not as good online as PGR2 was, they should so give us a PGR2 map pack for PGR4 and I would love them more :) but anyway really great game, stunning visuals even in game, amazing enviroments and just a great fun game to play.

COD4 - Ok short single player, but its so sweet, online is probably the best online fun I have had on a shooter since Rainbow Six BA, although I did love Vegas as well :D

Forza 2 - Ok it did get a little boring with so little tracks, but they really gave the 360 a great driving simulation, off course some think its not a sim, others do, but it's what impression the game gives you that counts, and I consider it a good sim, not as good as the PC sims but a great step in the right direction.

Crackdown - Another game that just screems fun to me, really amazing game engine, and brilliant gameplay, and the content they added to it later was just amazing.

Halo 3 - I had never been much of a Halo fan, played the 1st 2 and never really got into them, but the 3rd had me hooked in SP, loved every minute of it, especially co-op.

PES6 - I know its a game from last year, but it's been my most played game this year, and probably next as well (see lows haha), brilliant online, football at its best.

This forum - Love it really and most people here, even when arguing with them, just love seeing so much passion for games, right or wrong :)

Lows

Halo 3 - Online is rubbish really :)

PES2008 - Brilliant single player game, but the online is a shambles and will probably never be fixed, I really hope Konami don't let me down next year.

This forum - Being suspended a few times, and generally acting childish at times, although often provoked, like someone else said I don't actually care either, and JBeck ignoring me, come on man I love you really :D

Sure I can think of some more later :)

Skate - The law of averages tells you that if you keep trying, eventually you'll make a decent game. Well it took a while but EA really pulled this one out of the bag. Had many hours of fun playing this game, the new controls made you really feel like this was your first skateboarding game again, leagues ahead of the recent Tony Hawks games.

Mario Galaxy - Not much to say about this one, brings you back to the days when game companies really focussed on new ideas and fantastic gameplay. Easily GOTY.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 - Shocking montrosity of a game, almost everything Konami could have done wrong when making it, they did. Released well unfinished and completely unplayable online. Left me without a football game for a whole year :(

My gaming Highs of 07
( in no order)
1) Getting my PS3, going on release night with a couple of mates to get our PS3s, walking back to cars with the police following us lol. Thinking they must have stuck some bricks in the box as it was so bloomin heavy. Then getting home and staying up till 5 am playing Motorstorm, RFOM and GTHD, thinking yeah it was worth the near 500 notes.
2) God of War 2, got this game hoping i would like it as much as the first one, i was wrong i liked much more than the first one! Everything i thought that was done so well in the first one was improved, and extras on top of that, some of the action sequences was amazing. Showed how much power that 7 year old console had under its hood.
3) Call of Duty 4, after what i thought was a bit of a let down of COD3, i was impressed with what i saw at E3 and the various reports, thought it was a bit OTT. Boy was I wrong! the MP game is amazing and even though the matchmaking is a bit off i still have great fun playing this game, not sure ive ever played a better online MP FPS. The single player although short has some of the best levels ive played in a FPS game, the sceptre level, the sniper level and the big story twist ( i guess) Makes this game one the best games ive played for a long while.
4) The last 4 months of PS3 games, so we all know that the PS3 game line up wasnt that great at first, even though i loved RFOM, Motorstorm and VF5. But since the release of Warhawk and uptill todays GT5 prologue (more later) i have played some wonderful PS3 games, the online battles in warhawk, the pure fun of Ratchet and clank, the Story/acting and action of heavenly sword and the astounding graphics and characters of uncharted have made the last 4 months of the year well worth my investment and shows me the shape of things to come over the next couple of years.
5) GT5 and prologue, ok I know its not a complete game or without flaws, but my god what a fantastic looking game!!! GT4 prologue came out and was half the game this was, and i loved GT4. I cant wait till the full GT5 comes out if this is anything to go by. Everything i hoped it would be is true or will be when the full game is out, im only disappointed that the online part wont be ready till Christmas day!

Again in no order

1) All the fanboy nonsense we seem to end up having when talking about the PS3/360 (not so much the wii), just gets on my nerves its almost as if some peoples lives depend on one company failing and another winning. Anyway what does the winner of the console wars get? a nice medal?
2) People spending all there time looking for graphical glitches in games, or taking screenshots to show jaggies or poor textures, then shoving there informed (or not) opinions at us. Frankly I and i guess many others dont care if a wall has a bad texture or this cars has bad jaggies. For me it doesnt detract in the fun i have playing the game, as after all the gameplay side is what im interested in, only if these graphical problems result in poor gameplay will it matter to me ie slideshow framerates.
3) The Bad press gamers get, if its not FPS cause kids to kill each other to issues with churches being used in games to kids playing mature games, it seems that gaming is the new rock n roll. I think the average non gamer thinks that were a niche market that isnt important, well the amount Halo 3 sold in its first day breaking spiderman 3 record aint bad for a niche market.
4) Game delays part of life i know, and id rather have a delayed game than a bad one, but how come all the games i want, GTA4, MGS4 etc get delayed. Also whats with games getting delayed for months weeks before they are due out eg Haze?

Been plenty of other highs and lows this year, had plenty of fun playing online with some of you guys ands its always been a fun and friendly experience, even though i dont see eye to eye with everyone ( how boring would that be) I always recommend this forum and this site to anyone i know whos has an interest in gaming or computing. Just wish some would chill out a bit and not take things to heart or to seriously some times.:)

highs: the sheer amount of gaming goodness released this year, i dont remember anything like this in my life

mass effect, not a game, an interactive movie really

lows: that slow period between release of gears of war and forza2, then that other slow period between forza2 and halo3... bioshock didn't rate well for me

hass been a truely golden year for games, inc pc with ut3, supcom and others
