Hey guys,

My mate’s old Win 98 games machine has suddenly come up with a ‘himem.sys corrupt or missing’ error on startup after some spring cleaning…

Anyone know a good fix without re-installation? I’m well rusty; I haven’t used 98 since about 2000 :D

I guess we’re going to have to re-install the file of the CD/boot disk? But where do I start :(

Cheers,

SW.

If you have a 98 bootable floppy then boot using then then when at the command prompt enter this.

copy himem.sys c:\windows

That'll copy the floppy version to Windows and it should be fine then assuming the file is just corrupted. If it asks you to overwrite the file then do it.
