Hiper - are they still bad

Get an Enermax Modu/Pro. Hiper have improved and I never hear of the current models failing, but is it really worth powering 2x GPU's off of a budget PSU?

Other people will recommend Corsair, but imo I'd stick with Enermax.

my mate had an enermax psu blow on him few month ago took his gpu with it as well :( he bought the same psu as me (corsair hx620) and he couldnt be happya with it and am chuffed mines a right little corker of a psu :D

In case you don't remember, Corsair PSU's were failing quite regularly at one point, with this forum recieving lots of reports. Corsair investigated it apparently and resolved it.

The point is that Corsair don't have a proven track record and yet everyone's buying them, kind of like Hiper Type R's.

No-one knows of Corsair's absolute long-term reliability and I hope we don't end up with a repeat of the Hiper situation.

Enermax/Seasonic/Tagan/PC Power & Cooling all have proven reputations and actually know how to build their own PSU's. Corsair just buy in CWT and Seasonic OEM stuff which obviously suggests a lack of know-how on their part and proves that they are not a "proper" PSU manufacturer.

My Enermax Noisetake 465w is still going strong after 3 years and many upgrades.

I recommend Enermax, Corsair and Seasonic.

I very much doubt Corsair are manufacturing their own PSU's.

They're more than likely getting PSU's off one of the major manufacturers and rebranding them.

They are, they use Seasonic OEMs, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, as Seasonic build class PSUs.

The Corsairs seem to have quieter fans though.

Seasonic build corsairs HX series to corsair's own specifications. they are better then the equivilent rated, and more expensive, seasonic own-brand.

you do realise that everybody is using everybody else's designs, right? antec use Enhance designs, enermax use pc&c, corsair use seasonic and cwt.....besides how long do you need to have? the corsairs have been around for over a year and a half now and how many failures have we really had?

it makes no difference whatsoever whether corsair are a 'proper' manufacturer or not. its how the psu's are made that counts and like ive said before - they have a 5 year warrenty for a reason. besides the problem with the hiper type-R is that they changed manufacturer from CWT i believe, which manufactured the first lot, to some unknown company that evidently couldnt build a psu to save their lives. the end result with a whole truck load of problems and a forever-tarnished name. as long as corsair stick with seasonic, they really should have any problems:)

Actually, the Galaxy range was built using a Custom PCB made by Enermax.

I already knew that Antec's weren't self-build or whatever which is why I didn't mention them.

Also, how are Corsair's better? Unless you can provide pictures comparing the (quality of) the internals of them next to a Seasonic and actually know what's what, then fair enough.

In terms of how long do I need, well longer. A five year warranty just means that they'll RMA it, like Hiper do. I don't see whats so brilliant about Corsairs, and it does make a difference to who actually build's the thing, because it means that RMA'ing may take longer as the unit would have to be sent back to the original manufacturer by Corsair.

Maybe none of this matters, maybe I am wrong about Corsair but I would never recommend a Corsair and I'd probably never buy one. Don't care about price, I care about quality and since when has cheaper=better according to PSU's.

read the reviews, johhnyguru being one of them:)

them wouldnt slap a 5 year warrnety on the psu unless they had confidence in it:)

thats your loss then. recommending seasonic but not corsair is a little hypocritical but hey, that doesnt make a lot of difference to me. it certainly doesnt change my thoughts on the HX series.

Hmmm, maybe eventually I'll change my mind about Corsair, I'm not biased against them, just been bitten once by Hiper and don't see the point in risking it again with a PSU.

Corsair's may just be Seasonic's but then I'd just buy the (original) Seasonic. Same with Enermax, there are enough quality manufacturers to buy already.

Finally, in all honesty, I just personally do not like this re-branding technique, whoever does it. I don't see the point in putting the name of a company on a PSU that they didn't make. It doesn't happen with CPU's and Motherboards. It just reflects the current stupidity of the GPU market, with a billion vendors offering exactly the same product, whilst failing to drive down prices through competition.

Had a Hiper type R, bit the dust after about 8 months. I only owned one, it was great while it lasted, it died so i sought out a different manufacturer. Now have 2 Corsairs of different wattage performing brilliantly, if they die within a year i'll seek out a different manufacturer. For me manufacturers live and die by their products, if i feel i've got my moneys worth i'll use again, if not, next.

I've seen enough to know that you can't rubbish an entire company because someone had a bad experience (for all you know i used to eat my cereal out of my Hiper everyday).

I'd go with the best product you can get at the time, obviously researching is never a bad thing, but what can you hope to gain from asking if a manufacturer is 'good' or not? this thread is already full of * is rubbish from person A and * has lasted a while and kept me happy from person B.

Pointless in my eyes
