Wonderful news while I'm at work, my gf just rang me up to tell me that all the lights in my case were flashing and all the fans were spinning up and down apart from the cpu fan and upon turning it off at the back and then on again it does exactly the same, will also not respond to the power button being pressed

the strange thing is though, the pc was not even on...so did it just decide to blow itself up overnight?

the even stranger thing is, I bought my PSU about 3 weeks after my m8 bought his (about a year ago) and his did exactly the same thing....3 weeks ago

They were both 580watt Hiper psu's

I won't be too fussed if its just the psu thats blown as I can RMA it or use one of my others, but I will be very upset if its taken other stuff with it, unfortunately I'm now stuck at work until later so I can't even find out until then, grrrr

thought hiper was good, a year ago everyone raved about them on here, have had no trouble with it, stable voltages, runs my SLI rig, but a year has passed since then, I take it from your replies a lot of these have blown up?

and yes, its very annoying to have to wait to find out what else its taken with it (I so hope nothing, coz my m8s PC was fine and he had same problem)...but then again he didnt have his gf at home listening to a clicking noise for 4 hours before getting up to find out what it was,....it was my pc flashing and clicking with no cpu fan spinning...great, 4 hours of breakage

I'm going to test my rig when I get home with my Old Antec 480watt, anyone recon this will be ok to run the rig in my sig til new psu comes, or recon itd be best to just test and then leave it?

yeah thats what I'm concerned about too, I'm totally not in the mood/cant be arsed to pull apart my pc at the moment, wasnt planning on doing that til the end of the month wen im getting new cpu mobo n ram

thats what im trying to do, gettin P5N-32 SLI, C2D 6600 and 2gig corsair DDR2....but with PSU blowing up its putting a strain on the finance since I want a new one now not an RMA of one which will break again

na, I've had it about a year and a half at the most

the 3 weeks bit was about my m8, he bought his 3 weeks before I bought mine, and it blew up in exactly the same way...3 weeks ago, hence the time bomb references ;)

should still be covered by 3 years with hiper tho right?

I don't suppose they cover for other parts of the PC they blew up as well do they?

ok well im home from work now and just tested my rig with a 480watt antec

it seems all fine, boots into windows, all hdd's functioning, fans spinning on both 7800s all other fans spinning etc

didnt leave it on for too long as didnt trust a 480watt in an SLI rig

was surpsied by something though, maybe someone can explain but iv'e never had it happen before (and im an IT tech so deal with broken pcs all day)

I unplugged the 24pin cable and 4pin cable from my mobo and the 2 pcie connectors, then plugged in the 480w antec to the mobo and gfx cards....i expected it to post, displaying this and then say no hdd detected...because it was not powered, but to my surprise, the whole pc turned on and booted into windows....including the hiper psu at the same time as the antec....but the hiper psu was switched off and had no power cable in it

so how on earth did this happen, was the antec feeding the hiper power or something?

I'm prob not going to bother with an RMA on the hiper (atleast not for now anyway) think im just going to buy a new PSU

I'm looking at the 620watt enermax liberty (SLI, modular etc) is this PSU any good, anyone got one?

I'd go for the Corsair hx 620, for reasons mentioned above.

not going for the corsairs...also for the reasons mentioned above, in that yeah everyone raves about them, but they did the same for hiper and look what happened to that...

i.e. corsairs longevity has not been tested

where as enermax are a respected brand and have been around for a while

well i heard bad things about seasonics and one of the components in my current rig (could have been the mobo, but dont quote me on that) cant remember properly, so have never been too keen on them

and I, like some other person above had never heard of them until after the hiper came out, they may have been making psus for ages but not any that I would respect

has anyone used/owns an enermax liberty 620w? what do people think of them?
