Anyone know how good the quality is of the Hiper PSUs?

Hiper HPU-4M580 Type R 580W ATX2.2 PSU - Black (CA-009-HP)

Looks good value for money - was thinking of using it for my Conroe/x1900XT rig?

i bought one in red, have to say i was swayed by the looks.

i know some people swear they are silent, but mine wasn't.
and it died recently. i wouldn't have another.

i'm going over to seasonic.

actually toying with the idea of putting a mini-itx board inside the duff hiper case. might as well get some use out of the prettyness.

I've had my Hiper for 9 months now. It is silent once in windows (might be my chipset fan that makes noise) and I get stable voltages - according to my mobo.

Ive had my hiper 580w for about a year now, running 24/7 without any problems.

OK - so HIPERs aren't so 'hip' or is that 'hyp'? Anyway, what PSU offers the best bang for book for around 500-550W to power a Conroe/X1900XT system?

my hiper is probably the most stable PSU I've had, better than my old 550w enermanx and 480w Tagan!

mine was so stable, before it blew up with a large bang. ill never use them again, its not worth the hastle.

with PSU's Ive learnt is worth spending money on, afteral the fear of the whole pc damaged isnt worth it.

From then I have use a Seasonic 600w, working still without no problems. Not as flashly but just works. Put it this way, how can hiper's are half the price? - as they arent built as well. One example: the heatsinks inside hiper's are undersized and in the seasonic's they are oversized.

The first Hiper 580-R I got was DOA, so I had to RMA it. When you turned the PC on, everything would spin up / flash and then immediately power down - so when any current was drawn, it failed. The RMA came and I've been using it without problems since. The rails are very steady and are WELL within the error margins. It's virtually inaudible and one of the best PSUs I've used. I think that most manufacturers send out duffy ones every now and then, none are perfect ... but it does seem that Hiper do this slightly more than the better known makes (Tagan, Seasonic, Enermax).

Anyway, I think that the best PSUs about are probably Tagans. OcUK use these in most of their pre-built systems.

I have had my Hiper Type R 580w psu for a year now and it's never had a problem. It's stable, silent and looks good too (i have the blue one). I am also powering an Sli rig with it. No funny noises, no smoke or anything. Just a good solid psu. :D
