Hiper PSU's

the type r's had a supe rhigh failure rate due to dodgy cheap capacitors in them. Once it was identified as the problem they upgraded them to japanese decent ones iirc. other than that, they are alright, not as good as "the daddies" but perfectly adequate for most applications.

Have'nt Hiper gone out of business? There website is still up but all contact details have been taken down and the website does'nt appear to been updated since late 2008. There are tales on various forums of nobody answering RMA requests either.

I would certainly never buy one after a 580 Type R blew up spectacularly and took out a two week old motherboard.

Wow, The 580 version obviously had problems. Outside of that model i've not heard of or seen many problems. I was one of the unfortunate people to own one and have it pop :(

I had a Hiper 670 psu and it was fine.

Ran a Q6600 @ 3.6, 2 x 4870's in crossfire, 2 TB hdd's, 10fans, 2 dvdrom drives, sound cardand ram and it was absolutely fine.

 the mods should really block one word replies.

anyway, My bros rig (Q6600, 4x1GB, 2xHDD + GTX275) has been running off a 580W for a year and half now. Wouldnt recommend them really. If you already have one I wouldnt panic about it though.

Ooh - that's bang on when mine died

i have a type r480 had it nearly 5 years and it was second hand when i got it the fan has gone on it now and stops sometimes causing it to over heat .i blow it to cool it down and start again :). the fan went as it was full of dust .
Have now got a corsair vx 450 to replace it anybody know what g/card it will take maybe 4890

q6600 go stepping stock clock
1 pci card
1 hard drive
1 dvd rom
1 usb

The type r 580w units had a dodgy reputation, never used one myself but my nephews blew, but tbh any brand can go pop, i had a brand new seasonic s12 go boom the first time it was switched on, as long as they dont take out any other components when they go your lucky, EZcool, now theres a name to definitely avoid, cheap garbage.

and sumvision, avoid them like the plague, a local pc shop puts them in all their machines and i have had to replace a couple for people i know, but they don't seem to take anything else with them luckily, they just die :(
