+DVDRW

+320 gig hard drive sata

( or will need more power ?

Thanks

I hesitate to say it - but the Type R 580w has a reputation for spectatular death involving sparks and smoke. Just do a search on these forums.

The hiper should be fine.

I have it and it's still going ok after 2 and a half years. I think it had the flu a few months back but it's fine now :)

was a review done recently at hardocp on the hiper 580 psu, check it out.

also there are 2 types of hiper psu's, one i grabbed which was nearly empty from the inside, and some other ones that had larger heatsinks in it. do a search i did a thread with pics about it somewhere.

I brought a hiper type R 580 2 days ago. So far its working great to power my Ati 4870, Q6600, 2 SATA HDD and DVD drives. This one better not go boom as Ive been through 3 PSU's so far this year:mad:

That's what I thought! Mine blew up after 2 years and 11 months, within its last month of its 3-year warranty.. phew! It's been replaced now and working perfectly. ( last month..)

Oh, and this PSU wasn't powering a massive machine it was a A64 3000+, X800XT so it wasn't under massive loads.

nah, at least hipers can deliver their advertised wattage :p

They can't actually. Several reviews both online and in Custom PC found that they cannot deliver the stated output of 580w let alone the peak 630w. They just threw a hissy fit and shut down or failed. They also have a low (for a 580w psu) 12v rail of only 360w.

You did'nt check the forums for Hiper related disasters then? You must be insane trusting a Hiper with that rig.

i'd get an abit over an MSI without a seconds thought.

msi= eww
abit ip35 (pro)= win

Yeah i just like the look the msi one i had 2 msi boards before and so far so good lol

But thats not to say i will keep with msn i wil go with what ever best for the money and cheaper the better :D

So i take it guys the hiper will run it but is it worth the risk? lol see what what cash i got really and maybe get another PSU later

(edit ) ...
Just had a look the b grade stuff and found this = B Grade** Abit IP35-E £35.24 inc VAT

That MD anygood? or anyothers around that price range any good in the b grade stock ?

my hyper type r went pop with impressive flames coming out of the rear grill!
to their credit though they replaced it with a new improved one so not too bad as it was about 2 years old and the only proof of purchse date was the build date stamped on the psu

That was a type M and an American unit at that (not designed for 240v). It would be quite different from anything your'e likely to buy here.

Hiper use a few different OEMs for their PSUs and it seems that they're not all bad. There are a few pretty good Hiper PSUs about but I wouldn't trust the brand name (although I've got a 3 year old Type R 480w in my 2nd rig). I think it's best to treat their PSUs on an individual basis.
