Hiper Type R 580W Modular - Anyone using one of these?

I purchased one last week and have to say I am very impressed with the build quality and cables, packaged inside it's own toolbox! It is also very quiet, despite having two fans, which I feel is something they should mention in the product description. Might make more people consider buying them.

I have read a few reviews and user comments on this PSU, all good so far... until recently. I have found a few posts that question its reliability and performance...

Anyone had any problems? Don't really want it to go bang and take out a few components with it :(

Just swapped mine out to become my spare, as the 12cm fan has gone kaput (rattles when it works, makes no noise when it doesn't.)

And I now know that it was causing power-up problems for my graphics card (X800pro) as it used to flick off and on every two seconds in text mode (in BIOS etc.)

Now everything is rock-solid on an OCZ700 jobbie

Won't touch another Hiper, will stick to the better-named brands from now on

I felt the same, the whole thing "felt" good... but I'm a little worried after reading a few horror stories on these forums. Fingers crossed mine will be OK...

The Hiper is one of the most contentious items around here and I seem to have one of the good ones. Not sure if I'd buy another but I've no complaints so far. ;)

I have the 580w and i also think its a great bit of kit, had it for about 7 months now without any sort of problem.

as above, i must have had mine 9 months now. no probs whatsoever.

my rig is perma stable (im talking a full week of uptime, inc BF2, Utorrent, DIVX, MP3's, poker, HL2, etc). the only time i switch it off is when im really downloading nothing..

i have the blue one. looks the nutts, and does what it says on the tin!

(A64 3000+, DFi Ultra-D, 1GB Geil, 7800GTX, 2 optical, 1 HDD)

I swapped out an Antec 450w SmartPower II PSU (was making sparking noises :/) and put in a 580w Hiper Type R. So far (touch wood) no problems, it looks good and the volt readings are good.

i`ve had mine for about 9 months too without a single problem.

powering a 3700+ @ 2.6ghz, 1024mb RAM, 6600gt, hard disk, cd-rw etc

that pc is running folding@home 24/7 which uses 100% cpu time and the psu has been utterly reliable.

mine recently died after about 11 months of abuse... wouldnt buy another thats all im gonna say ;)

Mine also died recently, was very impressed with the RMA service, posted it off to them Friday afternoon, had the new one here on Tuesday. Would definatley think about buying them again :)

posted mine 9 days ago & still not heard anything... althought that wasnt returned to hiper

Mines been great since sometime around 9 months ago.

Handles my rig great (and silently apart from restarts) - AMD 64 3000 @ 2.2ghz, 7800gt, 2hdd etc.

i had one for over a year now - the 580 watt blue one. made a big mistake when i was re-filling/cleaning out my water cooling- i dropped a few drops of distilled water into the psu :O and it made a hissing noise- but the surge part kicked in and it worked absolutely fine the next day.

but i was still worried- so i bought a new psu instead- rather spend £70 on a psu -than loosing 1.4k worth of hardware.. :/

im now running a jeantech 700 watt (55amps in total) psu-which is solid.

Another happy Hiper owner here. I've had one for around 10 months now, and I haven't had any problems. It's nice and quiet and perfectly stable, and as others have mentioned it just looks so damn cool :D The modular cables are brilliant as well, way better than the Enermax Liberty I installed for a friend.

Well, sounds like a mixed bag :)

Hope I managed to grab one of the good ones! Thanks for all the replies, was shocked to see so many! Will keep you all informed... my order didn't exactly have the best packaging, so it will be interesting to see if it works at all... lol.
