Hi

Has anyone hired a car recently from Corfu Airport? Who did you use? Where did you collect and return the car?

I'm asking because I've checked the costs of doing the transfers with the holiday and the prices of hire cars and they're virtually the same. Having been to the same place a few years ago I know on the bus transfers there are loads of party animals. We'll have our 3yr old so don't fancy that.

We could use a taxi but we'd need to take our car seat and its bulky. So we thought hiring car would be better as some throw in a car seat too for free or a little extra. Plus we are then open to drive around and see some of the area.

Did anyone use a UK excess waiver company, any recommendations?

We used these guys when we went to Corfu in 2016. Got a slightly older panda for not very much money. Easy collection and drop off. Would use them again I think!

Expensive firms can give more peace of mind and newer cars... but bombing around Corfu in an old panda makes you mix in with the locals better! You pay your money and make your choice I guess.

I agree with going cheap and cheerful, if you're given a premium car the hirer is much more likely to thoroughly inspect it upon return whereas a 2 year old hatchback with a few small dings probably won't even get looked at.

When in Rome!

ebookers have 15% cashback with quidco at the moment. Use them and book with a reputable company and you will be fine.

I usually play safe and opt for Hertz, Eurocar or Avis but have a trip to Majorca at the end of May and so ran the rent-a-car comparisons and lots of cheap prices. In the end settled on Goldcar at this ridiculously cheap price for a week so will save on transfers + the car will be useful to explore the Island.

I read reviews on Goldcar and mostly they seem as legit and above board as other hire companies with mostly happy customers and while I know I might be stung and will have to pre-pay for a tank of fuel (with this special deal), I'll ensure I take pics of the car, blemishes and tank before and after hire, inisist they refund fuel when I come back with a full tank and try not to go over budget :D

I've also taken out an year long excess insurance policy with Reduce my Excess for ~£38. Went for the year as I have another car hire coming up in August with Avis where again I'll not be paying their own excess reduction policy which are usually very overpriced.
Good luck bro. Used Goldcar in majorca and got stung when I needed to change car type due to a 3rd party booking issue or something... Either way just make sure you are getting what you pay for and expect massive queues as they're extremely slow!

Having searched all evening I have since found a 25% off transfers code and have booked coach transfers. Having searched for cars it was coming out at around £120 for even the smallest car and with 2 adults, 1 toddler and 2 big suitcases it wasn't suitable. Plus there was a shuttle service to go and get the car so can't be doing that malarky with wife and child. £85 for return transfers on the speedy shuttle 30 mins not 1hr slow one.

Too late now but the way I do this is to just check tripadvisor for local tour/transfer reviews and go down the list. In this case the 2nd one on the list does airport transfers from €16 - €75 depending on where you are going. The added bonus of doing it this way is getting someone with a wealth of local knowledge who can also advise on tours/things to do/see.

Well that's my train commute entertainment sorted. I've spent the last 30 mins reading one star reviews. What a horrendous company :D

RIP anyone using them.
