Thought I'd post in Motors, but thread can be moved if it's needed?

But: Going to the US in November (Cali) and want to hire a proper pickup Ford F150/F250 dual cab sort of ride. Is this possible, anyone got any experience of hiring something that wasn't a rice burning shoebox of a car?

We know it's going to cost a bit more, but hopefully rolling round in a big truck for 2 weeks will make up for the outlay,

A real petrol head/redneck kind of roadtrip!

cheers

i hired a ford F150 with a V8 from enterprise. They are not expensive to rent as they are dirt cheap to buy over there. It wasn't a dual cab but a mega cab i think (had back seats and rear suicide doors from memory, i got picks on phone)

It was fun for the weekend but i would have hated to have it for longer. Was a pain to park and reverse, was awful on petrol (Around 10mpg in town) and felt cheap and nasty. Nowhere to keep the suitcases out of site either.

Just noticed your going to cali, would be even worse there. I had this in NC which is pickup country.

A real petrol head

Not in an F150 its not, they are utterly crap. Do it properly, do it with a Corvette. Seriously, the F150 is the American equivilent of an American coming on holiday to the UK and hiring a Transit because on the telly, British people drive Transits.

hmmmmm corvette is kind of 2nd choice, or try and get a 'decent' mustang.

But my neck is red, so it's an opportunity to live the dream for a week or two!
I think why we're going to try for a bigger truck like an F250, or another marque. something with a tonneau cover perhaps.

I do drive a transit sometimes too, so it is a fair swap!

Go to Aus and hire a ute, better car better country :p

Been there done it bought one already.

Chasing dust in Baja now!

But who could you hire a Corvette/Mustang from? Can only find average trash on Enterprise website, I'm imagining hiring a Mustang to be more sought after on these forums than an F150, so does anyone have any good 'Stang recomendations? Cheers!

Not quite, as the F-150 is the most popular car in America, and rednecks drive pickups, not Corvette's!

To echo others' sentiments, yes, it is easy to get an F-150 to hire. Most rental companies will have one. For all US rentals I'd recommend Hertz, as I've had nothing but great experiences with them. By booking on the UK website you'll get all the age surcharges, insurance fees, taxes and levies included in the price they quote.

Hertz have Corvette's and Mustang's. Be careful, as the Mustang will likely be the V6, which is world's apart from the 'Vette.
