Hiring an experienced overclocker

It seems to be a pretty temperamental board, but after quite a bit of messing around I've been running 3.4GHz absolutely rock solid stable for months.

Sorry for thread hijack... but do you mind sharing your BIOS settings? Wonder if there's some little option somewhere thats screwing things up for my board...

Cheers.

I have the P5N32-E Plus Sli board and its very picky for OC'ing. Has quite a few FSB holes but the latest BIOS revision seemes to have made it less tempremental. Mine needs pleanty of volts in the NB to be anywhere near stable and then it runs quite hot. 1.55v if i remember correctly but it has been rock solid stable @3.4Ghz for 11 months now.

Well, I give up. I've spent a good 4 hours this morning arsing about with settings, and although the old BIOS and dingleberry's CMOS settings have helped a little, I still can't get a stable, decent overclock.
Motherboard won't even post at 3.2Ghz (8x1600 or 9x1423), it posted at 3.37Ghz (9x1500) but wouldn't boot as far as windows, even with vcore at 1.475 and NB at 1.5 :(
I've just reset it to my old overclock of 2.8Ghz and gonna get myself a better motherboard tbh.
Let me know if you have any more luck Odhran.

Sure you don't just have a carp chip? Surely some chips just won't clock as well as others. Might be worth thinking about before spending another £80 on a motherboard!

Sell the P5N32-E and get a P5N-T.

I just swapped my P5N32-E for the P5N-T and my QX6700 which would not go above 293mhz is OK at 350mhz (stock volts on the MB) - it may go higher but I haven't tried it.

Have you got any additional NB/SB cooling?

I find the heatsinks get incredibly hot, so I have 2x120mm fans blowing onto them. Tied onto the side of my case, ghetto style.

Yeah that did occur to me, and no I haven't (nowhere to fix it in my case really), but the system was running fine at stock with 1.5v on the NB... so I suspect overheating on the NB isn't an issue.

Its possible. But the fact that it posts at 3.37Ghz and not 3.2Ghz kinda leads me to believe this has nothing to do with the CPU.

Cheers, will look into it.
