I have got a new HIS 1950pro graphics card but am not sure if the drivers on the disc are up to date.

Could anyone advise me of which I should be using for this. Maybe a link? :D

Thanks

Am I supposed to use the Cat 7.1 ones?

The drivers from the ATi site ? My Connect3D X1900XT came with outdated drivers i just got the ones from ATi's site.

im running my powercolour 1950pro with the 6.12 drivers. they seem most stable for me. I have heard some people have had problems with the 7.1 drivers with 1950pro's

What sort of problems are those? My brother is about to RMA his x1950 due to regular VPU recovery issues - maybe I'll get him to try the older drivers first if the 7.1s are a possible problem...?

Same card here, and same drivers. I have seen some stats that show the 6.12's give better performance too. So I decided to stick with 6.12's

The 6.12 driver are mainly more stable for overclocking. People have reported flickering of the screen when trying to overclock with the 7.1 drivers. It might be worth trying the 6.12 drivers but if he has the sapphire 1950pro, not the ultimate edition, they are known for overheating issues so it would be best to RMA it.
