Hey all,

So i decided to go for the b grade HIS 280x in the clearance couple of days ago, thought it was worth a shot for that price. Problem is I am having big troubles getting it to work having tried a lot of work rounds on web. So existing setup is:

Gigabyte Z97m-d3h mobo, just flashed to latest bios version,
I5 4670K, with noctua NH-L12 cooler and fans
8 gig ram, vulcan orange
cosair rm550w
about 4 shadow wings fans.

The problem started with was no signal on start up from hdmi on the gpu or onboard.

From what i read my psu should be up to the job, it has 2 6pin connectors which both have additional 2 pins next to the 6 to make 8, i assume this is fine?

So presently, the system is running, hdmi now working from onboard, gpu has power and gpu fans are spinning, have latest catalyst drivers for gpu and the new gpu is visible in device manager as radeon r9 200 series, cpuz (as hd7970) and gpuz (as r9 200 series) but GPUz has core, memory clocks etc at 0.

I have turned bios pci to legacy, flashed bios, flicked the bios switch on the gpu to both options not no avail. If i set primary gpu in bios to pci or pcie then still doesn't work and also onboard then doesn't work. Likewise if i disable onboard and not have it set as igfx.
I haven't tried to disable onboard in device manager as surely that will do the same and i wont be able to turn it back!!?

So now when i plug hdmi into the gpu i dont get a no signal but just a black screen, with the monitor noting im using hdmi.

Any thoughts would be great!? Am i missing something, is my psu still not enough or is the clearance card just not working?

Cheers.

so, not sure if the update helped but basically still didnt work and tried everything so resorted to retrying one of the other pcie slots. I swear this one didn't work to start with!

Anyway when i swapped the hdmi after boot the to the gpu, its worked with gpuz recording everything as well! So happy days there.

Only down side is that it is in the pciex4 slot, not the pciex16. What impact does this have?

Also it seems to be a bit temperamental still, not sure if it works during boot or if i have to swap it over each time once booted. would re looking at the bios settings, deactivating onboard gpu etc fix this? many thanks

you want a 16x slot ideally

try in the top 16x slot but go in bios with igpu and set the pcie slot to gen 2 mode/save/exit then try hdmi with the 280x see if that works
