HIS 5870 Card?

Hi there, Welcome to the forums :)

The main benefit of that card over the 4870X2 is that it is cooler, quieter and draws less power, it also has nice features such as eyefinity, audio bitstreaming via HDMI and DX11.

In terms of performance it is pretty much on-par with what you already have.

If you want a serious performance upgrade you will have to look towards the 5970 or a multi-card setup

Generally, sapphire and their Vapor-X series seem to be top-dog these day (the 5870 version is both a good deal quieter and cooler than the stock cooling solution). Looking at this review the HIS iCooler V turbo doesn't seem to be particular quiet - but it does keep things cool.

ah right, well i use a headset when gaming, so i dont really notice the fans, as this one is quite noisy when i put the fans up to 75% in game :D

Well i think i'll go for one of these, but you think if i went for the cheaper 5850, it wouldnt be much of an improvement over 4870x2?

As I said, there is no performance benefit going from a 4870X2 to a 5870 (have a look at the review link in post#2), the only benefits you would get are the extra features - which imho are not worth it at a cost of £280+.

As for the 5850 - as you see in that review, the 5850 is a fair bit slower than the 4870X2, but you get the same new features as the 5870.

Agree completely with above. 5870 is a sidestep from the 4870x2 with the only benefits being the ones stated.

5970 or multi GPU setups to get an increase. a 480 will be an increase too but again not worth the outlay for the small gain you will get

Since they are expected to be released in October or November, I would certianly suggest waiting if possible.

As for how they perform, no one really knows - but it will be a safe bet that the top-end parts will be faster than current 5800 series cards. Also, they will hopefully drive the prices of existing cards down if they perform well and are priced right.
