Hi Guys,

Im looking to change up to THIS Card from my X1950Pro, from what ive been reading i should see a huge improvement?
Are there any views / comments on the HIS Varient over others? Would i be doing right in getting is one? I dont really want to spend a fortune so would like to keep it ~ £200.

What is the noise like with this card? My X1950 Pro is almost Silent at the minute which is important as i sleep right next to my pc.

Will be going into:

Q6600 @ 3.0ghz (Tuniq Tower)
2GB Geil DDR2
MSI P45 Platinum
Antec Trio 650w (i think from memory!)
Vista 32Bit

Games i usually play are Crysis warhead, COD4/CODWAW, Flight Simulator X, FIFA 08.

Any views or help would be really appreciated!

Thanks a lot!
Jas

Just been having another look and noticed the powercolour 1gb version for £34 more, this would be worth it would it not?

Linkage: HERE

Not heard to many bad reports on the cards being loud especially at stock as the fan speed is really low but the temps run a little higher. You can use a manual fan profile to set the fan up the way you want it. Certainly if you are sleeping the card at idle will not be loud at load still there are not many bad reports about noise either.

Reviews on that card are saying its quite loud due to the fact the second smaller fan is always on 100% and you cant change it. That is a big factor for me because as ive said i sleep right next to my pc.

Ok im confused now then because a lot of reviews are saying the golden sample ones are loud because of the smaller fan not being able to alter it and its at 100% all the time. Yet no one has mentioned that the Powercolor ones are loud - Obviously im not doubting you or saying your wrong but im not confused! lol

Well all the cards have pretty much the same cooler. The powercolor one looks exactly like both of my 512mb cards and there was no watching TV or a movie on my pc with them. it annoyed me playing games which is why i thought the released the golden samples with better coolers. If it was me i would get a basic 1Gb card and stick something like this on it Link Before you buy get some different views on the 1Gb card coolers as iv personally only had 512mb ones even though they look identical.

Ughhh, why cant people just bring one out with a silent cooler! lol

Looks like you have to do some modding with a dremel to get that cooler to fit the 4870? Did you ever put one on yours or were you water cooled from the beginning?

Nah i had the one on air for a few days then when the other arrived i took them right off and stuck the waterblocks on. This seems to run quiet but its only 512mb. Have Gainward not fixed the second fan running at 100% now with the 1Gb card as from the review of the 512mb version it seems there aware of the problem and are supplying a little cable that reduces the fan speed so there silent for free? It seems the Golden sample by reviews is the better 1gb 4870 going.

i used to have x1950 pro, which is really good card for price £50, played all latest games, crysis on medium, but cod4,5 on maximum, etc.
but you will see really good improvement even on 4850... buy 4870 515mb under £170, or 1GB under £200 it will be good deal.

IT WILL BE LOUDER THAN X1950 Pro... try to O/C with catalyze your x1950 pro, and 4870 still will be louder, but performance will be much, much more better
