Hi,

So im after a x1950 pro for my new core2 rig but cant decide wich is best out of the HIS or Power Colour cards !?

What do people reckon ??

Visually i prefer the HIS and that double slot cooler vented to the back of the case would surely keep the temps inside down.

which has the best cooler ? anyone got any temps ?

cheers

I thought it looked like the better cooler but the powercolor one is made by arctic cooling yes ?? thats gotta be pretty good ?

anyone out there who has experienced both got any input ?

also another question, it will be running an asus 22" monitor at its native res, how much of an improvement would i see getting the 512 over the 256 ? worth the extra money ?

cheers guys,
i think i will go for the HIS card as it scores better overall and bearing in mind the tests in that review were carried out on a bench, i can see why the power color cooler faired better.

i think in a case the HIS cooler will be much closer to the powercolor's temps as it vents outside the case keeping the internal temp (and subsiquently the temp of the air the gpu fan draws in!) down.

oh yeh and it was marginally quieter !

Cheers for the input
Roll on thurs for my shiney new asus 22" !! :D

im also deciding on the HIS & powrecolor

HIS is clocked slightly faster at 620mhz compared to 600 on the powercolor

but im worried about that HIS fan, people say after a while they go noisy :/

can anyone confirm/deny this?

powercolour is better, look at that review posted above, the powercolours arctic cooler runs at 10c load temp compared to the his cooler.

yeh but as i said in an earlier post....

"I think in a case the HIS cooler will be much closer to the powercolor's temps as it vents outside the case keeping the internal temp (and subsiquently the temp of the air the gpu fan draws in!) down."

I dont mind a small increase in temperature for the looks and performance increase across the board that the HIS model brings.

so anyone heard of the HIS coolers getting noisy after a while ??

really ? that would be good to find out.

Not heard this personally. The HIS coolers are some of the best arround & have been for a while. Definitely a good choice the HIS cards.

Assuming your talking about 1950pro, Powercolor isnt 600ish core its a misprint.

Rest of the features

In terms of clock speeds, PowerColor has elected to rely on ATI’s stock speeds of 575MHz core/690MHz memory for their X1950 Pro AGP card. The PowerColor website currently reads 600MHz core/700MHz memory, but we’ve confirmed with them that this is indeed a typo and that the board isn’t overclocked from the factory.
