Hi

Yesterday I got my x1800XT but I am having problems with it. If I try and play UT2004 it will play for up to 15 mins fine but then the whole PC will freeze. Also if I try to play video files in windows media player the whole PC freezes. On both occations I have to do a hard reset - not even num lock works on the keyboard anymore. So far it seems to work with other games ok but I have not had much time to test them. Also 3DMark 05 ran without crashing too.

I have tried the 6.4 (on the supplied disk) and 6.5 drivers. I have tried it without installing CCC. Whatever I do I seem to have the same problems. It is running on a Tagan 530W PSU (also bought at the same time).

Any ideas what I can do?
Is it the card or is it driver related?

Thanks a lot :)

seems like a hardware problem as the whole computer hangs rather that and error message os BSOD. this happend to me a while back.try taking the card out and reseating it, also check any other pci cards that might hav come loose when u installed ** graphics card, reseating the cards fixed mine straight away.

UPDATE: I reseated the card but that sadly did not help :(

I have now installed the Omega Drivers 6.5 (and also used Drive Cleaner Pro multiple times) and Windows media player now works. However UT2004 is still crashing after a few minutes. It seems that the fan speeds up as the game (and the rest of the PC) crashes. Could this be causing the crash or is the fan speeding up to protect the graphics card via the card's bios?

Any further ideas? Games like CS:S, GMod & BF2 run fine (as far as I can tell).

Thanks again :)

FIXED :)

I managed to fix my PC after downloading special drivers. There is a problem regarding the Asus K8N4-E Motherboards (and some other NForce 4 chipset based ones) and ATI Cards. This however be fixed by using special drivers. If you go to the ATI support site and enter:

737-22378

into the search box you will find them. Hope this helps anyone else having the same problem.

Thanks again for the help :)
