I've only just encountered the problem of when I load up Windows Vista 64 I get a hissing sound through my speaker/headphones. The only way of getting rid of this problem is by doing a system restore.

I have tried reinstalling drivers and everything, even moving PCI slot. The thing is. It works after a system restore, then I would reboot say a few hours later and the problem would happen again. The only thing I can think of is perhaps a Windows Update causing it. System Restore says there was an Update installed, but the Control Panel Programs says nothing has been installed since August.

Has anyone else had this problem? I've stopped automatic updates for the time being and seeing how it goes.

I get that as well (got the same sound card), I put it down to feedback from the sound card as when the drivers kick in when windows loads up the feedback stops and you're fine. But yeah it's really annoying.

Mine appears to to stay on that's the problem...
Oh I see.

There are major problems with X-FI drivers at the moment that are all about constant hissing, poping and crackling when using 4GB of ram in a machine under Vista. It's been known for a while to them but they have yet to fix it. I guess to confirm you could try removing 1gb of your RAM and seeing if the hissing stops, at least then you'll know.
