As title says, I had no camera to take a few photos of the condition of the road at the time so returned to the scene about 2hrs or more later and seen that someone had now put a few road cones around it. These cones were not there at the time.
I had to put on a new tyre this morning BTW.

I was thinking of putting in a claim, what do you think, any thoughts?

Thanks.

Do you own a phone? Does it have a camera? If yes, this does not compute.

Almost certainly be a waste of time. They have no obligation if it hasn't been reported. Unless it's been posted on one of the pot hole websites, you have no idea if it has or hasn't.

And if cones go missing. Again it's not their problem till that's been reported.

Nothing stoping you from trying, but don't get your hopes up.

Get pictures, contact council, get claim form, wait 16 weeks whilst they assess the road, speak to their solicitors, haggle, and then eventually pay out for the full cost of 2 new tyres.

That's what I did.

Don't councils have specific measurements whereby if a pothole is a certain depth/width they can pay out a certain amount? Worth measuring up before they patch it up.

I thought that there was some silly rule stating that you could only claim if someone had reported it and it was not repaired within a certain number of days.

Forgive my ignorance but how does one hit a pothole large enough to damage your car without seeing it? I've always seen them and just repositioned.

Sometimes the sun goes away, and it gets darker. Then potholes can become harder to see. Especially when in traffic, and your view may be obscured, or perhaps it has rained, and it can be hard to judge the depth of a hole when it is full of water.

Most of the time people do avoid them, however, sometimes it happens, and you do hit one, then sometimes it causes a puncture, or worse.

I suspect the OP would have avoided the hole if he had seen it, and understood it would damage his car.
