Hey ladies and gentleman,

I parked my car in my usual marked parking bay and I have been hit and the driver has left no note.

I have Located said car all of 5 foot away, and he has plenty of evidence on his boot but he's refusing to answer his flats number (got from landlord)

see below for damage and pictures

Evidence, dust is exactly the same as mine. mixture of steel dust and brecon beacons mud.

And his number plate

I don't know what to do, if I contact my insurance and he denies I loose my no claims. It'll probably cost a bomb to repair as well, just when I don't have any money because of Christmas.

If you are 100% sure it is them then being civil is your best bet.

Knock on the door, be all smiles and claim a neighbor saw it happen and you've been out for a few days so chances are they have not been able to get hold of you but it's OK now because you're back and yes, it's OK get it sorted without going to their insurance, etc etc.

his car is spot less except for this one corner which is covered in dust from my work.

try to be civil first, if no budge then call the police right in front of him before he goes off to get rid of the evidence

Phone the police.

Let the police investigate. Perhaps the scare of the boys in blue turning up. Could perhaps make him cooperate

I'm not sure what police forces you guys have, mine stated if no one was hurt then its not a police matter and I should go through my insurance...

Three times I have asked the police for assistance in other situations and three times they have fogged me off. I suppose i'll have to contact either my insurance or pay for it to be repaired my self. How much do you reckon it'll cost to get the bump pulled out and sprayed or is it a new bumper job?

The police will investigate but ultimately will not take the case forward. I had a witness to a hit and run and when the other party simply said that he hadn't realised he'd hit me the police proceeded no further.

You may get somewhere by going through his/her insurance (you can buy the details online) but without strong evidence you will be fighting an uphill struggle and will have to declare a non-fault claim to your own insurance company.

I won my claim against the other driver (also hitting me in a car park) but it took many months and I had an independant witness.

This.

The police don't care about civil matters and, although criminal, a hit and run like this is one rung above 'my cat is stuck in a tree'.

Try to be civil.

So basically I'm screwes. So resisting the urge to put the chaps windows in.

It might be a bad situation but disguised swearing isn't allowed either as per the FAQ. Thank you.

Not really - they may be civil in return (more so if you say things like a neighbor saw it and told you - this means you have a witness).

Don't tell your insurance company - they will just fix it and if they can't recover the money you will pay for it AND lose your NCB.

And even if he wins he'll have a non fault claim on his record for several years.

Landlord has given me both his house phone number and mobile number and he ain't responding to either. Looks like I'm going back into my overdraft. Should never have brought my self something decent.

Have you left a note or answer phone message asking for a call back?, not everyone answers there phones to random/unknown numbers, i certainly don't :)

Breaking news: Text message from him, telling me to get lost it wasn't him.

Looks like I am ****ed.

I hear we have had some plasters working in the area it would be a shame if they left some fitting in the carpark, they would make a right mess of the tyres. But my girlfriend won't let me.
