Hit and run only number plate left ?

I've had someone hit the back end of my st220. There is a revive center across the road who has kindly left the reg of the car that hit mine, but it's destroyed the back left off my bumper. How do I go about contacting the person or do I go insurance or police root ?

The reg is DV60 PUY

I was at work at the time, car hasn't moved for over a week as been busy with work so no way they can claim it was me, I'll ring non emergency number tonight and get some clear pictures of my street. I can't be bothered with insurance just find it disrespectful that they left no note and took a bystander to see it and notify me.

I'm away over the weekend but I'll get it sorted Monday speak to the person ag the revive center and ring the police, I normally have dahscam in my van as I go all over the UK in it, but I bought this as cheap run around was only 1300 quid and body work is rubbish anyways but it's besides the point of the not was from the person I would have not been bothered, and with there honestly let it go. but as they did damage and drove off that annoys me and if it have been a car I cared about well you know what I'm getting at.
