When searching for a space in a hospital carpark today after dropping the wife for an emergency hospital visit, som old man reversed into my car. Damage from first inspection seems like a minor chip. Trying to gauge public opinion on
  1. Did I mess up here at all? Obviously I could have reversed faster to avoid but didn't think I would be hit.
  2. Do I even bother claiming as damage is so minor. I'm OCD about my car and will prob get repaired but it looks like a minor chip repair company will be able to sort.
  3. On a white car is there any way to check for deeper damage that might not be immediately visible ? seems no dents tc.

Situation:

I was turning around after looking for the space at the bottom end of the floor of the carpark. The bit that I was on, is two way, but an idiot in a black car was parked on the left side, so I had to use the other lane to get out. When coming out of that zone to turn left, some BMW driver who was going the complete wrong way in the one-way section tried to sneak into a space that someone was already parking in (somehow thinking they were leaving). While trying to get in, he started reversing without looking and even after me beeping my horn once then a continuous beep he kept reversing until he hit me very lightly. Got his details and said I would follow-up later based upon damage and video as I had to get to my wife in the hospital and I assumed that he had an appointment or something similar to get to.

When home in the dark with the bright lamp on, looks like only damage is a minor scratch that can be seen on the white paint. Definitely wasn't there before as I had only cleaned the car and checked it this morning and it's also at the spot of where he hit and too high for chip damage unless really unlucky.

As I will have to repair the car for my own OCD, is it worth chasing for something so minor? he was stressed trying to park in the hospital and old so feel a bit bad chasing and the amount is only token to me but annoyed when I feel it was someone else's fault. He said whatever happens he only wants to go through insurance anyway.

I would just leave it and just sort it myself, but that is just me. I often cannot be bothered with the hassle that this will no doubt bring, my time is more valuable to me than wasting it with insurance companies etc. for what looks like minor damage.

My car has a few marks mostly from car parks etc. It used to bother me, now I no longer bother as it seems the more I bothered about it, the more it seemed to happen! I very much just see my car now as a way to get from a to b, but again that is just me getting old I think and realising there are far more important things to worry about.

That Tigwan who parked there is an absolute *****.
As I spent 40 minutes trying to find a parking space as my partner was in hospital; as it was that bad, I’m being a little forgiving there but they are an idiot for sure.

you cant upload videos here, i would use YT and put "unlisted" and put link here

but from looking at your picture, disregarding everything, damage isn't a lot, i would get a quote from a repairer first, then decide

They seem to work for me and the guy above. Do they not work for you?

Old people were once young knobheads so I wouldn't let age factor in. It does seem small enough to not even worry about though.

did he admit he was at fault / video categorically shows that ... that you were stationary throughout his manouver.
people of use horn if they are annoyed you've taken their place.

backed into in a car park a few years back , no camera so I couldn't have proved that I wasn't moving forward when he reversed, because he decided he couldn't make a bend on ramp to next storey.

That mark is almost identical to the one that someone managed to put onto wife's car while they were parking next to our stationary car. The man did stop and we discussed options but in the end I didn't feel that it was worth it for such an insignificant mark. I think a sensible attitude helps sometimes - but of course the interweb seems to have destroyed that feature of human society...

He admitted complete fault but was annoyed I took his details for something minor, but I was in a rush to get into hospital at the time so said I would take and inspect later.

ironically, nearly backed into a car today at swim pool - old slick trainers wet on the clutch pedal, twas raining so bike was out - lesson learned.

if it was me, I'd get some proper paint and clear lacquer off ebay, mix it up, paint thinner layers with an artists brush, wet sand it down and compound polish
