When searching for a space in a hospital carpark today after dropping the wife for an emergency hospital visit, som old man reversed into my car. Damage from first inspection seems like a minor chip. Trying to gauge public opinion on
Situation:
I was turning around after looking for the space at the bottom end of the floor of the carpark. The bit that I was on, is two way, but an idiot in a black car was parked on the left side, so I had to use the other lane to get out. When coming out of that zone to turn left, some BMW driver who was going the complete wrong way in the one-way section tried to sneak into a space that someone was already parking in (somehow thinking they were leaving). While trying to get in, he started reversing without looking and even after me beeping my horn once then a continuous beep he kept reversing until he hit me very lightly. Got his details and said I would follow-up later based upon damage and video as I had to get to my wife in the hospital and I assumed that he had an appointment or something similar to get to.
When home in the dark with the bright lamp on, looks like only damage is a minor scratch that can be seen on the white paint. Definitely wasn't there before as I had only cleaned the car and checked it this morning and it's also at the spot of where he hit and too high for chip damage unless really unlucky.
As I will have to repair the car for my own OCD, is it worth chasing for something so minor? he was stressed trying to park in the hospital and old so feel a bit bad chasing and the amount is only token to me but annoyed when I feel it was someone else's fault. He said whatever happens he only wants to go through insurance anyway.
- Did I mess up here at all? Obviously I could have reversed faster to avoid but didn't think I would be hit.
- Do I even bother claiming as damage is so minor. I'm OCD about my car and will prob get repaired but it looks like a minor chip repair company will be able to sort.
- On a white car is there any way to check for deeper damage that might not be immediately visible ? seems no dents tc.
