OK - Im 52..... I havent gamed on a PC in 14 years or so, and near where I could max game settings. I have played on PS3/4. I have ordered a new PC that will handle any current game at least 60FPS on max settings in QHD. I need some recommendations.

Games I have played (on any platform) and loved.

Fifa (will stay on console for this though).
Witcher 3
Skyrim and Oblivion
Horizon zero dawn
Resi Evil 7, and 1
Sim City 1 & 3
Civilization 4
Rome Total War
Settlers
Rollercoaster Tycoon
Elite - original and Dangerous.
Diablo

Should give you an idea on my tastes. Im not a platformer nor a FPS player.

Games Im considering:

Total War 3 Kingdoms
Divinity Original Sin 2
Crusader Kings 2
A Plague Tale
Anno 1880
Cyberpunk (on release).

So a few questions:

1. Any of those I shouldnt bother with
2. Any others I should be looking at.
3. - Most importantly, rank them.... ie which should I start with and which should I lave for a bit.

Thanks in advance.

My advice? Tackle games one at a time. It's easy to get bored and abandon them when you have so many at your fingertips.

Now do yourself a favour, install Assassin's Creed Origins and don't look back for the next hundred hours. ;)

From your list I'd definitely jump on Divinity OS 2 first otherwise.

Thats why I was asking for an order - Ill go one at a time. I have considered Origins - but I had Black Flag on PS4 and didnt really get on with it.

@paulmapp8306 if you play CK2 then EU4. Bit cut down on character interaction, more to do with countries.

Same applies if you like Elite, look at X4 Foundations which is far superior if you aren't on 10,000 hours exploration, but you want to build space stations and fleets.

RE Elite - Ill have a look at X4. I am considering Eve Online.... Always been intrigued wit that but never had a capable PC.

OK. EU4 looks like a good option - hard choice between that and CK2, as there the same but different if you like. Wont get both - so need to research.

How does Stellaris rank here? More Civ by the looks of it - not as deep as EU or CK - but its space, with custom build ships :) I may well like that a lot - but ultimately the gameplay is most important. If its not as deep, or its more one dimensional then its not for me.

A slightly oddball suggestion - Fallout 4. Despite how things might appear, it isn't really an FPS game. It's more like Skyrim et alia in a very different setting with a large serving of Settlers thrown in. Yes, there are guns. But there are guns in Elite too, which is also on your list of games you like. I suggest 4 rather than 3 or New Vegas (which are much better RPGs) because 4 has a very strong settlement building aspect to it. If you mod it with Place Everywhere it becomes a pretty good settlement building game. If you mod it with a suitable selection of the vast number of settlement building mods, it becomes a genuinely good settlement building game. I didn't even bother doing the main quest until I had been playing for ~200 hours.

Tried it on PS4 - didnt like it at all. Not sure why, I just didnt.

So - I need to dig deep (though I have a week before the PC turns up so have time).

So far, after basic research Im thinking

1st/2nd - X4 Foundations (looks really good), and CK2/EU4. Not sure which to go with first - OR whether to go CK2 or EU4.
3rd - Probably Divinity Original Sin - only because Anno is a similar kind of game to CK2/EU4 (more city building - but its about empires)
4th - Anno 1440

By which time Cyberpunk will probably be here...... if its not Ill jump into A Plague tale at that point. Ill leave Total war till later - as while I enjoyed Rome, I enjoyed the "grand strategy" part more than the RT battles (fun at first but got samey quickly).

So the main choice at present seems to be CK2 or EU 4 - then that or X4 first.

Rebel Galaxy Outlaw, a literal blast.

And I hope you ordered a 3440x1440 UW monitor to go along with your new PC. :)

This for me, has rejuvenated my interest in PC gaming, the added immersion factor is immense.

Nope. Its standard QHD. I did consider UW - BUT its not the only video source going into it - and there are problems with non standard widths from my other sources.

From your list if recommended Witcher 3 to start with. The Bioshock games are good too.

That was fmr the "played it and loved it" list. I might get in on PC, but I completed the PS4 version before the 1st DLC hit (about 6 weeks I think it took me). I havent done any of the DLCs - so might be worth a play through again then the DLCs - especialy as tgrapically it would be a lot better on the new PC..

EVE Online always run on 15 year old PCs. Except if you had something before 2003, EVE run on anything.

The Last PC I had was spec'd and bought 2000. If I recall it has a whopping 20GB Hard drive. I ran it until about 2007 then switched to consoles (for the kids mainly) - and picked up a bottom end Laptop for the family to share for internet stuff/homework. Even back then it was a mid tier at best PC - so no, I never had a PC that would run it really.

I'm sure, not really relevant though is it?
My point is I'm considering eve as a game option, and that it always interested me but I'd never had a pc the could run it properly.

With a new build pc on its was that's no longer the case ..but is it worth a sub game, given others available or should it be high on my list.

I do need to check out some f these. Im a strange breed. I really didnt get on with Red Dead Redemption 2 either. ITs the last title I bought on PS4 and though Id love it. I got board very early on. Just because something is a great RPG doesnt mean I'll love it.

Elit Dangerous I played on PS4 - two summers ago now? Just after release. I didnt play anything else for about 8 weeks - then started to get board with the constant grind. ITs good -very good, but a but repetitive after a while, and I dont really enjoy just exploration. If X-4 is similar, with more to do Ill give that ago, if not the Elite will be on the list.

OK - so so many great suggestions. I am distilling the options one at a time.

EU4/CK2 and indeed HoI2.... Im going to hold off. Not least because I cant make my mind up which Id prefer. There is a considerable outlay as DLCs can add up and some seem pretty necessary to unlock key features. There all relatively old games - and from what I gather EU5 is in development. They all have demo versions, so I can have a tinker, and with so many other great games to look at - Ill put this genre on the back burner for now.

AC - Origins/Odyseey - same here. Having not enjoyed Black Flag (or AC2), and while understanding these are not the same - more RPGs - there are titles from Devs I KNOW I enjoy - Cyberpunk and Outer Worlds - due out relatively soon. Ill play other games first and pick those up at (or after) release I think.

I am Definitely picking up Divinity Original Sin 2 for an RPG, and Anno 1800 for resource management - probably in that order with a space combat think in between.

Im also definitely picking up EITHER X4 foundations or Elite Dangerous. Not sure which though. Loved the original Elite (on a BBC-B computer in the early 80s) and Dangerous on PS4 a couple of summers back. However, having played ED before..... I know the PC version will be FAR superior graphically, and in the last 2 years will have developed from the console version I played - Also having a "new start" with re-ignite my love. However, I didnt enjoy mining, or exploration that much (exploration was better but after a while just got samey). I did like trading and combat. the grind is big here though. I havent even seen an X Game - and while graphically it seems inferior to ED - gameplay wise it might suit me better.

So - unless anyone has anything else left field, or cares to help me decide between X4 and ED, Im pretty set.

Thanks for all the suggestions, incites and advice.
