As in title, I'm hitting 90c using the Maximum stress level setting in IBT which is a little worrying just wondering if that's ok?

I'm getting about 62c in Metro2033 and Crysis.

My voltages are set to 'auto' in the bios if that makes any difference.

That's pretty high. I get about 75 max running IBT on extreme setting, but then I run at a much lower VCore than you. Auto almost always overvolts SB chips. I can get my 2500K stable at 1.16V, 4.4GHz. For 4.2 I imagine you could go even lower. Try manually setting VCore, but be prepared to tweak some other settings as well (load-line calibration, for instance). IIRC when I tried OCing using Auto, my VCore was similar to yours under load.

i just ran it with my i5 2500k @ 4.5ghz and it was topping out at 71-72c on the maximum burn test. This was using a Venomous X in push/pull config..

Not sure about 4.2, but at 4.8 at those same voltages I'm only hitting about 64c, albeit with a better cooler.

My hunch is that the mounting pins are no longer pulling the heatsink tight to the chip. I would look into a new cooler, ideally one with a back plate.

64c on maximum IBT @ 4.8!!, wow, I'm jelly tbh, what program are you using to monitor your temps?

Perhaps your right about the cooler, if I can't lower the temps I'll purchase another one.

I do have the retail cooler that came with my chip, do you think it's worth giving that a go?

Use a combination of realtemp, coretemp, and open HW monitor, my chips stunning upto 4.8, after that it requires a shed load of vcore and high temps :D

The highest I've seen it is one core at ~72c, though I seem to have a strange hot core, core01 at the most can be a good 9-12c higher than the other cores, thus raising the package temp. Gaming load sits around 50c.

You can get some decent air coolers now that are proven fine upto ~4.7ghz (and beyond) for around £30-40, it would be a worth while investment, the FP7 was fine in its day (I've had two and a FP13 pro) but is gradually being put in the shadows by other coolers.

Its about time Arctic Cooling came out with some new cooler designs.
