Yesterday i saw the car infront of me hit a Dog,

I was driving down towards Lakeside with my dad, and and we turnd left onto the romford road, i let a 4x4 through as he was struggling to get out of a farm shop.

so we are driving further down at about 40 - 45 mph when as we come up to Belhus Park, i just saw this blur and saw the car infront hit the dog.

I immediatly pulled over and ran over to see if if the Dog was ok, i got there a split second before the owner.

He was so upset, he was saying can kept saying "silly dog", he moved it from the middle of the road and was covered in blood. I gave him my polo shirt to wipe the blood off. I then had to wait for him to walk to the carpark to pick up his car so he can collect the corpse.

While we were waiting other dog walkers came over as its a popular spot, and tarted crying too. it was terribles

When he fianlly arrived i helped him put the dog in the boot of his car, and stopper traffic hits he backed off and drove home.

Even though it was an accident i thnk the other guy was a bit of a **** as although he was in shock form hitting the dog he refused to goto the owner and see if he was ok. and all he said was "i only picked the Car up monday"

I for one am gonna slow down during that strech of road for show. Even though im not a dog lover i was wellin gup and had to take a big deep man breath.

I keep thining if i hadnt let that 4x4 out it might have been me who hit the dog, or it might have still been alive.

Has anyone else had any other experiences?

<EDIT> THE DOG SLIPPED THE LEAD HE WAS NOT RUNNING AROUND FREE! <EDIT>

happened here.

Loss of live is always sad, even worse for those closest to the human / animal that died.
It's a fact of life and there's nothing that can be done about it.

Perhaps some electro surgery to make you forget your whole life.

He should have had it on a lead, simple as. Not the dogs fault, it's the owner that should feel guilty. I'd be ****ed as the driver of the car if someone let their dog run out infront of my car as well.

Vey sad, me personally I'm a massive animal lover. I would have been really annoyed with the car driver saying , he only picked the car up on Monday, and that's putting it gently.

Just try to forget about it mate.

Very sad, but yes, around roads, dogs should really be kept on leads. My dog usually has the sense to stay on the pavement but I put a lead on her near roads; once somehting catches her attention that she wants to chase, she will ignore everything and dash after it. It's a little unfair to blame the car driver in this instance. He was probably in as much shock as the dog owner.

i forgot to say, the dog slipped the lead and ran off, when he pick up the body the lead was hanging from him. Complete accident nobodys fault

Hopefully some electro surgery will make me forget you.

About 10 years ago a dog ran out infront of me when i was doing 60mph, i managed to scrub off some speed but not enough to avoid it, i just clipped its back end with my front left corner and remember seeing in the mirror the dog spinning like it was caught in a mini tornado in my mirror. The owner heard the bang from his garden and came out to see the dog trying to drag its rear end home. Owner admitted he had left the gate open and thats how the dog got out and it was his fault and paid for new wing/bumper/headlight/indicator and im pleased to say that after a hip opperation the dog did walk again.

It's unfortunate you had to see that. However it's not the 4x4 drivers fault, there's little you can do if a dog runs out in front of you at 45mph. If anyone has to be held at fault it has to be the owner. The lead slipping is the owners fault, he wasn't holding it properly.

Was it a puppy / new dog? I'm certainly no dog expert and am, to be honest, quite scared of dogs. Though from the ones I've seen who the owners let of the lead normally stay on the pavement and then once they get to the end of the road wait for their owners and then cross over. Haven't ever seen one just go nuts and run around everywhere.

It's one of those things that happens. I've hit a few animals in the past. It's not easy to face the owner, and you feel guilty for a little bit but at the same time I have to admit I was thinking of the costs to fix the bumper.

My mum witnessed something similar a year or so ago, but the guy that hit the dog was a few cars infront and kept on driving!

My mum and another pulled over and got out as the girl owner came over the hill to find her dog like that, got it in the back of my mums car and sadly it was put down by the vet :(

It seems to happen quite often sadly.

I hit a dog on holiday in Maryland, felt sooo devastated and sorry for the poor thing. It was a nice fellows labrador and he mistakenly left his gates open. He admitted it was his error and offered to pay for repairs etc., i didn't pursue anything as i felt so bad for the guy, i paid my Aunt for the repairs to her bumper, only came up to something like 200 dollars.

Years ago I remember seeing a local girl of about 12 at the roadside after her dog had escaped a field for it to get killed on the road. I can't imagine how she felt.

I don't remember hitting anything except maybe the odd bird. The wife hit a cat once though. Ironically she was on the way to the vet to settle up because they undercharged her for some treatment for our cat. My wife way doing under 30, and the cat managed to run away, so I think it just bounced off the undertray.
