Family friend has just managed to get rid of her abusive ex. He controlled all accounts, services etc.

All her heating / hot-water is managed by a hive wall unit and hive hub. He keeps controlling it to abuse her remotely.

I reset the wall unit and the hub but the hub is locked to his account. We tried to contact hive but they refused to unlock it.

I also tried to stop him controlling it by resetting her wall unit and now she has no hot water or heat control because I can’t connect to the hub to re-control it.

What’s the best way forward here? From Google, it suggests just a new hub is needed? Or is a new wall unit needed as well?

New hub, they're cheap enough and easy to get hold of. Your friend can set up an account and link the devices. Might have to factory reset the devices or unlink from the hub.

I'd start with the hub, then look at the other units later. Once the existing hub is disconnected it will disable remote control of the system.

The old hub will be useless though as they do lock it to the account.

Edit: I don't know for certain but I have read that the thermostats will work in standalone mode without the hub. You could set the schedules then immediately unplug/disconnect the hub and try it. Adjustments thereafter would be via the thermostat as app functionality will be lost.

Will the wall unit still be usable? Or will that need to be replaced?
