I have a large Victorian house. Gas bills £500-£600 pm! But im stingy i only have heat on for a couple of hours in the morning and 4 hours in the evening. I never fell toasty!

Radiators hot to touch and valves turned up to max.

Recently had a Hive system installed. Target temperature 19/20.

It NEVER reaches that. Max 16.5. But when the heating is switched off, even during the night it says “actual temperature “ 14 ish. But the house feels freezing and less than 14.

I don’t therefore understand how with the heating switched on, it only raises the temperature by a couole of degrees??

I bought some manual thermometers to verify the Hive temperatures and they seem spot on.

I don’t understand any of the logic! Why the house feels cold with snd without the heat on, why the temperature only rises a couple of degrees when the hearing is on and why my blinking bills are so high yet still feel cold!

Because you have a large, poorly insulated house with high ceilings. Probably undersized radiators and the boiler can’t heat it from 14 to 20 in 2 hours.

I have an Edwardian house with similar problems, that are somewhat mitigated now.

Thanks. Get what you’re saying but i can have the heat on from 4pm to 11pm and only gets to 15/16. How have tou mitigated

We put radiators in that emit more than enough heat to for the rooms at only a 30°C flow temperature, replaced the boiler with one that is more efficient, insulated the loft and installed thick curtains that puddle on the floor
