Hey every time I close counterstrike I get the 'HL2.exe has stopped working' message, about once a week I get this message while actually playing the game. Popping up when I've closed it anyway isn't really an issue but it's annoying and so are the crashes, any ideas what could cause this?

Q6600 @3ghz
4GB ram
Shuttle
New HDD lately but it did it on the old one so that's not it and it also means I've done a fresh install of everything and hasn't solved it

It's a known issue. Happens pretty much every time I close TF2, and intermittently L4D and HL2 eps.

It has happened for years, and Valve are well aware of it - but a lack of a fix after all this time shows it's not something that's easily resolvable

Aye happens to me too in vista, but I don't think valve are bothered since it doesn't stop gameplay in any way.

i get crashes inside css now though

oh fair enough, suppose one crash a week ain't the end of the world
