HL2 FakeFactory's Cinematic Mod v4 installation

I have started playing HL2 single player again recently and I am nearing the end. I just came across FakeFactory's Cinematic Mod v4 and I was wondering if it would affect where I am in the game at the moment if I install it now.

Would I have to restart the game from the beginning or just the level I am on?

they are up to version 8 by the way. The graphics overhaul is staggering but they recommend 64 bit OS with 4GB RAM to avoid performance issues.

Just be warned, version 8 is HUGE.

Is there a way of just having the environment textures without the awful character models that come with v8?

pretty sure the character pimper lets you choose the original Alyx should you opt against the slutty one.

What about all the other characters?

I couldn't seem to navigate my around that stupid 'character pimper' to reset the other models.

think you're stuck with the other characters, Alyx is the only one that can be changed.

No you can keep all the original characters, I had to install all the new ones at start as they kept the original rubbish ones mostly

What's the latest version of the mod that works with just HL2. I'm sure when I was looking at downloading this again, the later version only work if you have like EP1 and EP2 installed as well.....

looks superb version 8 and the previous versions really upped the eye candy to the max, 2gig left on download zzzzzzzzzzzzz

Hmm I'm tempted to try this v4 mod (v4 apparently being the newest you can use on 32-bit Windows without the very real possibility of problems) but 2 gigs? :eek:

I think I'd like to see more pics of the difference between this and the default textures before taking the plunge.
