hmm interesting proposition from a client

it's not unreasonable of you to ask for 2 years wages for a web designer of your age/experience/qualifications etc, as this is what you will lose by signing the contract with them.
why will he be losing two years wages? just because he won't be designing for insurance companies doesn't mean he can't design for other businesses.

dude think about it.. giving exclusivity to anyone is a bad idea, period. If someone comes along and says "I'll give you double." what you gonna do? You've signed a dotted line saying you cannot do that.

Obviously they think you are talented, thus you should at best be ripping their arm off. Else, and preferably, I'd be out there pimping my portfolio..

What you could do is sign up to them for a year, then copy right any logo's and design bits. Then tell them you want a billion pounds for them :D

Thanks for the replies. I think they are just trying to get lucky with the contract, we will see.

Im not getting that much for it really, I deliberately quoted quite low because my Portfolio needs beefing up - When I have a couple more decent professional sites in there I'll start doing this for the money instead of the portfolio.

I seriously doubt they'll get a design Agency to agree to this so I cant see myself agreeing either. I doubt it'll cost the job, we will see. I need to discuss it with them and I told them Id be happy to do that.
