Driving home to get some forgotten paper work Sunday night...driving carefully around a hairpin corner, (max speed 25mph) when a big black range rover was coming towards me..middle of the road. I had to swerve and evade which meant steering into a hedge row, unfortunately for me, it meant hitting a tree also. So the next thing I know is paramedics, fire brigade and police are all over me.. I'm an Intensive care nurse so was weird being in this position, i was thinking what can I feel, what hurts...but also very confused and thought that "something" was coming to get me. apparently i had 2 policemen on one arm at one point. Anyhow the BASICS team also came out and sedated me. next thing I know is my roof is being cut off and I'm being slipped onto a spinal board. triple immobilised. 28mg morphine, some midazolam and a few volterol later I'm home having had my spine cleared and lucky to have no fractures or cuts. I do have nasty whiplash and a torn intercostal muscle (muscle in-between your ribs) on my left side.

I'm very lucky, just ****ed off that my focus is no more! and i really liked my focus, and I have missed an job promotion interview because of it.

the car has gone to my insurance wreckers yard for quote purposes. they only have the car key so, in all my house keys have gone missing as my in-laws cleared the car yesterday.

doubt ill get much for a 04 plate. so i need to spend out on a new car to boot.

also cheeky gits, the Range Rover didnt stop, so I have no one to claim against. Stated this on facebook last night and have had 4 emails from companies via facebook this morning.

bloody hell! sounds awful but at least you are ok (and as you work in ICU you know full well what not ok looks like!)

utterly unsurprised the RR drove off, she (come on it had to be!) was too busy applying lip gloss in her vanity mirror or planning where to next badly park her tank to pick up her sole child from school 1.5 miles from her house....

I wish you a swift recovery chap :)

First of all its good that you seem to be ok, but all that after hitting a tree at less than 25mph? I know trees don't move when you hit them but that seems like a major response for such a low speed crash!

word of advice: don't crash in a focus then :)

with all respect get better soon OP!

trees are leathal, they have been around longer than us, survived the ice age, dinosaurs, aids and bird flu, versus a ford focus they just laugh!

leaving a poor woman like that wrapped round a tree! RR driver should be hung...

cheers....you do realise there are male nurses out there too don't you?

true, thinking about it it does seem over the top, but i was semi conscious amd combatitive (hence the sedation) deep in a hedge row and they needed to spinally protect me.

a friend has just texted me to say pain is a fine motivator...no its not it just bloomen hurts!!

I've honestly never been treated by one, but am aware of there existence through TV shows such as 'Scrubs' :)

All a joke, sorry if laughing hurts your spine!

So again, get well soon, good luck getting a new motor! No way of tracking the RR driver it being a regular work commute for example? Stake out style!

That really is rotten. Sorry, I'll get my coat.

Glad you're ok though, a car can be replaced...

Sorry to hear this. Hope you're all OK - back injuries can be a nightmare. It took me about 6 months to be able to run properly and without pain after a car accident in cyprus.

When this happens to me (people approaching me on my side of the road, or at least part way over the white line) I slow right down, sometimes even to a dead stop.

That's shocking, take it there is no CCTV even if it doesn't cover the scene surely they will be able to track it down and get a reg?

Range rover might have hurt less than the tree, also, you'd have someone to claim off.

In this day and age I'd be suprised if there wasn't CCTV footage from somewhere in the immediate area showing it going past... tracking down the footage tho is gonna be harder as the police probably won't be that helpful seeing as it wasn't a murder, etc.

I'd doubt it, takes it from a 25mph crash to a 50-70mph head on. Also the range rover has pointy bits of subframe that attempt to punch through your safety cell to impale the poor driver.

The tree may be rough (I'd rather hit a brick wall tbh) but at least they're here to tell the tale.

I always wonder about those in-car video recorders when hearing tales like this - it may seem over kill but having some video evidence in this situation would mean the RR driver being properly punished for leaving the scene and the insurance covering it without loss to the OP.

I have one although the people that made mine went bust (re-assuringly!)

these guys get good reviews

for £200 its a no brainer, especially in circumstances like these where the bint just drives off leaving the OP to pay for all the costs and losing NCB etc..

Sorry to hear about that. Hope you make a full and swift recovery.

My friend had a similar incident erlier this year.

Coming down from oban she came round the corner To find someone over taking another person just prior to the corner. had to ditch the bike and herself or hit the car.

Insurance are claiming because he never actually connected with her he is not responsible.
