Hey all,

I want to buy my girlfriend a TV for christmas but am stuck between either getting a monitor with a built in tuner or a TV.

Currently she has a JVC 28" CRT, which has a 26" viewable screen. It's a little bit to big and bulky for her room really, so something a little bit smaller would be better, but saying that a 26" LCD won't look as big. Her laptop has a HDMI out and a BluRay drive so it will be good to watch BluRays on a decent sized screen rather than on her laptop.

Do you think I should go for a 24" monitor with freeview such as the Samsung T240HD - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-104-SA&groupid=17&catid=510&subcat=

Or with a proper television?

Monitor Pros,
1080p capable (Not gonna be too noticeable against 720p when watching a BluRay from 2metres away though?)
Could be used as a monitor too (duh)
24" I feel would be a better size to suit the room.

Monitor Cons,
Sound quality

Television Pros,
Bigger screen size
Better sound quality

Television Cons,
720p only
Less inputs

Please let me know your thoughts, suggestions welcomed :)

Thanks,
Jonny

That's a good point. Hmm I think the monitor is looking the better candidate at the moment.

Do you think that both will handle standard analogue televsion equally or would a TV be better at interpolating to get a clearer picture?
