A spot of advice needed please guys !

I currently have a BFG 7900GT OC 256mb fitted ( its a good 'un ) running at 550/1600 and was wondering if I should get another one and go SLi , or sell the 7900 and get a GX2 ?

Or is there an alternative graphics setup you would recommend as the outlay would be about £180 no matter which way I went ?

Processor is AMD 4000+ running at 3.0GHz ;) , and 2GB of Corsair RAM on a DFI Expert.

Also, I’m running 2 x 24” Dell’s (one at a time for games of course) and want to play with everything turned ON :D

Having pretty much the same setup as you (I had a 7950 GX2 XXX edition from XFX) and I was using it on my Dell you won't be able to "turn every thing up".

If your looking for the uber hard core gaming experiance you'll wanna change upto conroe and get quad SLi.

However - If your not after super hard core you will see a different if you went to a GX2. They are good cards, but the 24" Dells suck GFX power like no tomorrow.

Hope this helps,

Agent.

Well I intended to 'go Conroe' when Vista was through its initial teething troubles and build from the ground up , so to speak :)

Interesting that even a GX2 can't cope with a 24" Dell :(

I,m also running the 24" Dell, using an X1900XTX 512.It copes with the Dells native resolution admirably with all in game settings maxed and moderate to high levels of AA and AF.Admittedly I run Oblivion without AA as I like to use the HDR option and haven't got around to installing the chuck patch, but at such high res AA isn't quite so important for me.

Other demanding games, such as Fear and Cod 2 also run well at native res with max graphics settings and moderate to high AA and high AF.

My point is if I can run at native res and max in game graphics settings on an XTX and achieve decent framerates, then a GX2 supported by a decent cpu, mobo and ram should have absolutely no problem doing the same.

The thing to remember is that a GX2 is almost identical to two 7900GTs stuck together in SLI, anyway...

Check out the 3D Guru's website for a very nice review of the GX2 at high res and decide if it's for you. Remember that two GTs stuck in SLI will be very similar in performance, however.

X1900XT-X overclocked to the nads will run that admirably.

I mean my XT-X @ XT has perfect performance in BF2 at 1600x1200, 6xAA and 16xAF :D

ATi have always done better with higher AA+AF+high resolutions.

why proc you got and have you tried playing FEAR @ 1600 * 1200 with soft shadows and max AA and AF?

If you have make sure you can still walk smoothly afterwards...
