It depends what frame rate he's after though. I know I can't play games at less than 60fps, especially first person shooters, without being irritated by the framerate droppage.

I agree I can't stand being limited to 60fps, and the tearing.

Beige, 17-inch CRT ewww :(

Got a nice, silver & black 19-inch Gateway CRT (thanks 2 daBay) 17-inch no matter what is just toooo small (screen-size) :D You don't know what you're missing! JUST get/invest-in/etc a bigger monitor, CRT or TFT doesn't really matter

crap ugly beige 17" crt monitor

Is bad and should be changed, however if desk space isn't a problem get a good quality 21" or 22" CRT. In my opinion good quality CRT's a better than TFT's in every way except size, weight and power.

I have a 21" Iiyama visionmaster CRT and it rocks, cant fault it. If i wanted to upgrade to a TFT it would have to be at least the same size which i cant afford at the mo! The down side is the thing is absolutley HUGE. It also weighs summik like 60 kilos!!!

I would keep the gfx card and get the lcd. Wait a couple of months for nvidia G80 :)

CRT's give a much better image with much better colours than a TFT. TFT's will need to come on a lot further before i get rid of my Sony Trinitron 21" CRT.

DX10 will not work on XP by the way. Another way to force us on to the DRM laden Vista perhaps?
