So, I had an MSI Gaming OC R9 280X fail due to the version 1.1 fan leaking oil and eventually the fans gave up the ghost.
OcUK as always were perfect in their service
and today (only 2 weeks after RMA) I received the replacement from MSI (via OCUK)...a totally unused new Version 1.2 R9 280X Gaming OC.
I did in the interim however, buy a Sapphire R9 290 Tri-X OC, which if I am honest, is a little over kill for my WOT and occasional Titanfall and BF4 gaming sessions.
But which one to keep ?
R9280X - based on 7970 - so getting a little long in the tooth in terms of refresh terms, but still performs really well.
R9 290 Tri-X OC has lots of grunt and if I want to go to 27" in the near future could handle the 2560x1440 resolution, but I don't think WOT stretches or makes full use of this unit.
The Going rate in the MM for the Sapphire R9 290 Tri-X OC appears to be around £260 and around £140 for the MSI R9 280X, but I am not in desperate need of cash to be fair.
I can't add any reasoning to help decide on which one to keep, so thought I would ask the good people of the forum for a thought or two
