HMRC Self Assessment software

Afternoon all

For the current tax year (2016-2017) I'm going to need to fill out HMRC Self Assessment, I've had a look on the HMRC site and it lists a lot of approved software to use to aid filling the forms out.

Does anyone have any recommendations for this? I'll need to cover my current employment, capital gains and charitable donations/pension (as a higher rate tax payer)

Are you actually self employed as a sole trader?

Why not do it by hand? They're fairly straight forward.

Not self employed but need to fill it out as I have capital gains

just do it on the online HMRC portal, it's fairly straight forward, or do you actually have to calculate how much gain you are liable for?
The software generally just pumps out figures to put in the boxes, but you should have everything to hand anyway
