Hey guys,

last year or the year before, I saw a thread about someone who made watches as a hobby. I feel I have far too much spare time so i would like to give this a try myself. Anybody got any good starter tips and pointers, forums to visit, sites to use?

Thanks in advance

Starting on clocks rather than watches may be the best starting point - can be less fiddly and a darn sight easier to see the parts. After getting used to that work your way onto watches.

I'd love to make clocks myself, information is limited, as is my time at the moment, however, I wouldn't be happy with the prefab style and would prefer to design and do it all myself.

You need lots of cool tools for a start off:

Timing machine, like a vibrograph
Ultrasonic cleaner
Precision Screwdrivers (top quality ones)
Tweezers
Oilers and the oils themselves
Jewel press
Crystal/case press
Case openers of various types.
Consumables such as finger cots, rodico putty

Then you need patience, a steady hand, and a good magnifying device.

If I could change jobs, it's something I'd like to do. But, getting training locally (even nationally) seems to be near to impossible.
