***Hogwarts Legacy - RPG***

This is a game i havent got to far into, played for around 15hrs, then uninstalled as was getting a bit bored, then not long ago installed again but forgot all controls like how to fly the broom etc so uninstalled again lol

Do quite like the game though and will defo have another bash at it, will have to watch some vids on the tube or something to remind me how to bring up the broom etc as dont want to start from the beginning again.

Personally think it worth a play, but there are a few areas which could have been done much better, partly suffering due to being developed primarily for console.

Something that was a huge missed opportunity in my opinion was that wands were just cosmetic, even if only small boosts, etc. it would have really enhanced the game if wands had personalities and bonuses/penalties and could be discovered and crafted with stats, etc.

I actually really enjoyed the intro section, I'm around where you wake up after your first day at Hogwarts. The story telling was good, lots of charm and nice design choices. It surprised me a tad because as mentioned I'm not a big fan of the universe, but it captured me enough to keep playing once I've the time.

@TNA The bare arsed cheek of beating me to the sentiment by mere seconds! Rude!

I’ve been playing this for a few hours the last day, and am also surprised that I’m enjoying it. Looking forward to getting a few more hours tomorrow.

It runs great on the desktop, but had an absolute mare of a time trying to get it working on the Legion Go. I’d been using CachyOS and it would just constantly close out back to the Steam page. Wasn’t quite sure why, but actually put it back on to Windows 11 to see if it did the same. It did… Seems it’s to do with me using auto VRAM, rather than allocating an amount in BIOS. Oops.

I guess it’s probably a game best enjoyed on the bigger screen anyway!

It is a pig to get running well on the original Legion Go - you need at least 16GB available system RAM and at least 6GB VRAM to make it play at least somewhat well and ideally more than 16GB system RAM and 11-12GB VRAM for it to play well even if you turn down settings, never mind if you have RT enabled. The game won't even compile shaders on starting if you have enough VRAM pre-allocated as you then have less than 9GB system RAM available.

(One of the reasons I was looking to the 32GB Go 2).

I completed this a while back now,

I jump back in now and again on a new playthrough with the built in MODs

Merlin trials auto complete, No delay on spells etc.

Because I'd naturally done about 90% of it by playing through it once, and I thought to myself "It can't be that hard to 100%"

Also, i'm stupid.

Fair reflection, no more questions.

On a serious note, for some reason when I had a PlayStation I used to really care about trophies but on PC I just don't give a **** even playing the same games.
Possibly amplified by the fact you can just tick a box and achieve them on Steam anyway.

I got to 100% on this last night. I don't have all the Steam achievements, but I've done everything in the game. I very much enjoyed it.

Pros:

- Environment design is stunning. Everything looks great.
- Attention to detail is excellent, with items from the books and movies making it in. You can tell a lot of time was spent on this.
- Battle mechanics are very enjoyable.

Cons:

- Story is a bit meh. It's a great open world game, but not a good RPG. E.g. No good/bad. No repercussions for decisions etc.
- Shame you don't have more to do at Hogwarts.
- Flying controls are poo (why the need to use both joysticks?)
- Performance. A bit stuttery and needed to upgrade to 32GB of RAM to smooth things out. Raytracing is buggy, even now. I ran out of VRAM with RT on with my 3080, but a friend with the 9070xt was also have bugs with RT and ended up disabling it.
- One particular graphical problem is really annoying - Going into Cave's in the day time causes the screen to go white sometimes. I can't believe that hasn't been fixed after all this time.
- The game doesn't make a lot of things obvious, such as certain controls, gear management, battle tactics etc. I didn't realise some useful things until I was almost done with the game.

That is a good deal for anyone that hasn't already got it. I am playing my way through it atm and really enjoying it.

I struggled at first with the combat but since swapping to a controller and turning the difficulty down it is ok. Some of the battles with trolls and those statue things go on for a while and I still find tough even on easy.

Tried it last night, seems like it could be a good one but if feels like a very slow burn/intro. Forced slow walking between cutscenes. Pushed through that and got to the school, maybe the reins will be loosened a bit soon

This is one of those games that I liked a lot (it's Harry Potter...what's not to like) but I trailed off once I got out in othe wilderness. Too much traipsing about back and forth.
The realisation of Hogwarts is just sublime and great in VR (but the last time I tried it, it was slightly too jerky)
