Hey guys

I fancy rooting my one x mainly for increasing and lowering CPU speed for games or power savings.

The phones unlocked and running android 4.1.1

I don't know anything about ROMs (at the minute) but if I root can I just use it as it was but able to use root only apps?

Never rooted anything but Nexus devices myself but pretty much yes, once rooted you can leave the stock rom and it will all run as normal except you have the option to now run rooted apps. If you're really looking for battery savings a custom rom and kernel are generally better than stock in this aspect. Best place to checkout is XDA-Developers forum.
 
When you root the phone you can use normal and root apps.

If you want to fiddle with the CPU speed you will need to flash a different kernal which will allow you to do so. Not sure on how to do it for the One X but there are plenty of guides here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1536

EDIT: Beaten to it :p. But yes, the XDA forums is the best place to check when you're planning on rooting.
 
Nice one. Might attempt this tomorrow. Quite disappointed with the One x's performance in games, especially GTA 3 which my nexus 7 plays fine at near max settings.
 
I would've thought they would perform quite similar seeing as both use the Tegra 3 and same screen resolution :confused:. Must be some of the HTC bloatware holding it back :p.
