Holden HSVs

There are loads of different Holden HSV's - which one are you after?

It's very expensive to import them and they cost quite a lot of money on the used market. And performance aside, they are built as you'd expect from a Vauxhall product, so although your Holden just cost you £9000 its still 10 years old and drives like a 10 year old Omega.. :p

It is a Monaro - the Monaro was a 2 door Coupe variant of the facelift of that shape Holden Commodore.

Which is why IMHO the Commodores are a waste of time. Why pay 10 grand for a 10 year old GM saloon? You can get a Vauxhall Monaro for a few grand more thats half the age yet the same car.

the monaro was the coupe form of the Holden Commodore

That particular car is the HSV version of the Holden Commodore from 1999.

The VXR8 we get in the UK now, is the HSV version of the 2008 commodore.

They used to make a 2 door Commodore coupe, called the monaro. But when the current model came in (the model you see on the VXR8) they dropped the coupe so Vauxhall imported the saloon instead.

It will have the same 5.7 CV8 engine as found in the very earliest 2004 monaro that you will see on the early series of Top Gear. Similar affair, cheap interior, big american corvette V8, cheap price tag, handles and drives very well. Never officially imported here (unlike the VXR8 and monaro) so will be an ultra rare car. Definately a bit of a talking point down the pub.

ah right. so basically... go for the monaro. thanks.:)

just out interest, why are there a lot of them for sale? did people buy them and then get quickly fed up with them? i heard clarkson saying he loved it etc?

Lots will have moved up to the VXR8. Theres quite a few ex monaro owners who now own the VXR8, or other american LS series engine vehicles.

This is the car its based on

The VT commodore. Do some world searches (as opposed to just UK sites) and you'll bring up tons of information on them from aussie websites. They love their commodores.

Not a clue. what brand were they sold under ? The holden brand ?

and for the record TWR own HSV in australia, and are the official importers now. If you ask walkinshaw performance (the UK official tuner appointed by vauxhall and owned by Mr Tom Walkinshaw no less) they can import you pretty much whatever you like. The Ute featured on top gear was imported by them also.

The VXR8 bathurst, is just a normal VXR8 with a load of walkinshaw performance options and some stickers. So it would have been them, but i never knew about them importing them before the first batch that were imported and sold as Holdens. They then dropped the name as nobody had a clue who they were, and sold them as vauxhall monaros

but iirc they never imported the saloons.

not sure who you'd get to do it. I know walkinshaw will source any Holden Car you'd like.

Would it be a cheeky to ask them to import a ford baring in mind they run the factory holden team in the V8 supercars ? :D

Aye.

A number of the performance car mags and old style Top Gear tested them. Something at the back of my mind says they were imported under the SVA scheme when it first popped up along with others such as the Datsun R34 GT-R. I might be wrong mind.

Dont say that to any holden fan boys down here!

They might very well go bright red in the face with rage and punch you in the face:p

/Been **** stirring my friends that like holden about the "2 door Commo" since it came out:p

Hah, our 9-5 has those cupholders, well one of them. Amanda gets mad at me for messing with it.
