Hi all,

We're looking at taking our first holiday as a family. We're a family of 2x adults, 1x 4year old and 1x 18month old.

Booking through thomas cook for turkey, 11 nights all inclusive. Comes out around £1400.

Looking at the extra -

Your standard luggage allowance is 15 kg per person. You can add an extra 5 kg allowance per person for your whole party for just £45.00 for the whole party

Now im guessing the infant doesnt get any allowance as standard. Is 45kg enough for all of us or do you think the extra is worth it? I have no idea how much stuff weighs!!

Second thing is travel insurance....

Adults x £24.99

Children x £9.99

Infants x £0.00

Travel Insurance total £59.97

Is this reasonable or should we look elsewhere?

Thanks so much.

That travel insurance is pretty pricey, I paid £4 for mine when I went to Croatia last year - though I have paid £30 when I went to Moscow...

Luggage weight is totally subjective and dependent on the person. When I went to Croatia, me and my friend put our luggage together (to save money on Ryanair) so had about 8 kilos each and it did us ok. Some of my friends went over their 15kg allowance just with their own stuff...

You got scales in your house? Get your suitcase, put what you think you'll take in it. Stand on scales, take a note of your weight. Pick up suitcase, note the weight. Subtract. Find your luggage weight...

Remember to try and keep a kilo or two spare so you can bring back souvenirs.

or just stick your suitcase on the scales, then fill it up till you reach a certain weight
