Holiday Suggestions

Can't believe there's people exist that think there isn't much to do in Egypt :/
Sorry, I meant in the normal holidaying places such as Sharm El Sheikh etc. People don't realise how far they are from the awesome places such as the pyramids etc.

Was thinking something else whilst typing. Mind is elsewhere tonight, sorry.

[edit]I would love to go to Egypt, but not for a relaxing beachy holiday because I'd be missing out on all the cool historic stuff [/edit]

There probbably is, but the people/enviroment are just awful.
The people I encountered were friendly enough. The environment I don't like because I don't like hot weather :D

The capital is pretty nasty because it is even more heavily polluted than London, and is very congested. The rest of the place isn't like that though.

I love all things Egypt, so that'd be why I rate the place so highly :)

Don't worry about it :) Thats the reason I was saying its probably not for him because although there are beaches and there are amazing sights to see, you probably can't do the lot in one holiday :)

Yeah exactly. Leon said the same too. As above edit, I'd love to go to Egypt, but it wouldn't be the beaches I would be visiting, Far more interesting things to see/do :)

well, half term i assume is the 23rd oct week.

Dubai is fun.
dep lon-dxb - 21/10
dep dxb-lon - 28/10
£252 each on czech airlines.

Dubai palm beach rotana inn (it's not on a beach) will 310 for 7 nights (you could try getting it for 6 nights as you will arrive 1 day later)

total - 407 per person.

you will also probbably end up spending less money while you're there too.

Yeah 23rd Oct is half term week, may be able to go outside half term but not sure if it's possible yet. Would be a bonus as obviously prices shoot up for half term.

Thanks for all the Suggestions so far, going to look into them all.

Greece is still an option, although she's been a few times so somewhere different would be nice.

Sorry those two phrase's dont really work,

go to Dubai, and spend less money,

Not when I go there we dont. Dubai is stupidly expensive, full stop.

But if you do go there, loose the missus and get in a taxi to the Cyclone club.... nuff Said

of course if you go to all the tourist places, eat in hotels etc then you will get ripped off,
otherwise its cheap(ish)

Exactly what was expensive?

eating in, eating out. buying food & drink.

The taxi's are not bad, and the gold is cheap in the souk's. but apart from that its blooming expesive all round.

Where did you eat out and shop??

Buying food can hardly be expensive, especially if you like indian cuisine or local stuff, we paid no more than a fiver per head, usually we paid around £1.50 for a dish.

Drink (alcohol is expensive) but other fizzy drinks etc are cheap.

It's cheaper to eat out than in IME.

eating out, at the intercontinental, the twin towers Iranian resaurant, and a few others over by the free port area are the usual haunts.

The supermarket big british one, cant remember the name, was rather dear. But the gold is Damn cheap.

In fact due there again in a few weeks on business.

Tesco? :p

If your eating in hotels, then it obviously will be extremely expensive (one of the golden rules of travelling, never buy anything from a hotel), try restaurtants in Deira dubai, e.g. Automatic, Karachi Darbar, Ravi restaurant.

Nah not Tesco, Carrefour.

Twin Towers shopping mall is in Deira, and the Iranian restaurant is on the top floor overlooking the creek
going to a shopping mall is your first mistake, they are more expensive than the UK.

i rest my case overall Dubai is shockingly expensive.

If i wanted to find the Dubai equivalent of the local greasy joe's cafe, i dare say i would find a restaurant that does decent food, just like the lcoal greasy joe's does, but overall Dubai is expnesive compared to the UK, and is not a place to go for a cheap holiday.

it can be as cheap or expensive as you like, it's not like monaco where only the wealthy can have a decent holiday, which is what your making it out to be.

Had a quick look around, Mexico is out by the looks of it. Looking at around £600pp for a week.

Paphos and Rhodes are looking quite good atm, both around £300pp. Egypt is also around the same price.

Any more opinions on the above locations?

Baghdad is cheap at the moment.

Food is very cheap, so are hotels. Weather will be a nice high 20's low 30's during your chosen time.

The only downside is the protection team to keep you safe will cost you an arm and a leg.
