Holiday without the kids - Suggestions

It's our anniversary next year and we're looking to go away without without the kids for the first time. As it's our 10 year anniversary, we're looking to do something a bit special. It also makes sense to go somewhere that we wouldn't go if we had the kids (e.g. due to it being a long flight, or somewhere unsuitable for children <7).

There's a chance we'd need to get back on short notice (long story), so it can't be somewhere too far away, or somewhere that only has flights every few days.

Criteria:

• 5-7 nights
• Flight time + transfer(s) < 10 hours from London
• At least one flight a day
• Not somewhere you could do on a long weekend
• Suitable for mid-late March (i.e. not hurricane season, or a beach destination when temperature will be cold)
• Less than £7k

Few ideas so far (not really researched these too much yet, so may not be suitable):

• Florence. Hire a car and go down to the Amalfi coast.
• New York
• Dubrovnik, then maybe sail around a few islands.
• Corsica

Any other suggestions, or thoughts on the above?

Any hobbies or interests that could link to destination?

I always fancy a tour of a wine region if we ever get to go away without kids

Snorkeling, cycling, kayaking hand wine tasting would've all be nice things to do, but not something I'd want to base the trip around.

It is a five or six hour drive down to the Amalfi coast from Florence I think.

It is a lovely area though, Amalfi, Sorrento, Solerno and a ferry ride over to Capri.... Nice beach areas.

Not been there for years but have great memories of that area.

Yea I probably wouldn't do it in one hit. Would be like a mini road trip stopping off at one or two spots on the way.

Vegas

That's really not our cup of tea. I'd like to go, but just for a night passing through, not for an entire holiday.

Lake Garda and Verona area may offer you enough of those to be of interest

We did Lake Garda, Verona and Venice a few years ago. Will definitely go back to Garda (and try Como) as it is stunning, but not this time.

was going to say somewhere like toronto if she likes city breaks

at least in canada as well you get the great rockies (big amazing mountains)

you can get on the mountain express and see the wonderful views

City breaks are fine, but I don't think you need a week for them, unless you're doing something else nearby.

Toronto doesn't excite us. The Rockies do, but we have family in Vancouver, so will visit them on that trip.

<10 hours, Caribbean. Smaller islands so not Dom Rep, Cuba, Barbados etc. more St Kitts, Antigua, St Lucia.

Only if you can stand going premium economy at 7k though. 7 nights is do-able and it will feel like 2 weeks.

I don't know what it is about the Caribbean, but it doesn't appeal to us. I think it's because it looks a bit too commercialised/Americanised (although that might be completely unjustified), but if we're going for a beach destination I'm more tempted by somewhere in the Indian Ocean direction (Maldives, Seychelles, Thailand, Malaysia, etc).

I think we've ruled out New York as it's somewhere we'd probably like to take the kids, just not for a few years.

One other place that has popped up is Dubai. Not sure if it's our cup of tea as it seems a bit ostentatious, but maybe it would be nice to go stay at an incredible hotel and have a bit of luxury.

Yea I get that. It's hard to explain!

I guess it's because I wouldn't consider Dubai to be a beach holiday. Dubai vs St Lucia are different kinds of holidays.

If I wanted a pure beach holiday, then I'd be comparing Maldives vs St Lucia, and I'd pick the former.
