I used to see myself as a bit of a HTPC buff, and loved Media-Portal, because it's open source (i love open source) and it has the features END USERS want, not what kind of features fits in with corporate objectives/legality.

Just today, I stumbled upon THIS video, and I have to admit, I'm gobsmacked! The video is a tad long (14 mins, not 18 mins like the vid says) and the narrator sounds like a Tard, but if you look past it, there is a reason why he has such a smug attitude. (they are re-diong the vid, due to people hating the narrator)

The features Linux MCE packs, are crazy and I wanted to know your opinions.
If anyone has tried it, or has more knowledge on it than me, please post here

cheers big ears!

Agreed, he does sound like an idiot.

All the same its a very cool vid.

Couldnt help but feel he did more to show off the Linux MCE though, and just compared the MS features to the Linux ones, rather then actually show what Windows MCE can do other then comparison.

Still, the Linux MCE did look to kick ass vs the MS one.

Wow! Looks amazing.

Will be trying that this weekend see what its like.

I am going to start working on a HTPC project soon. I can see myself getting annoyed by the gyro mouse though.

EDIT:

Wonder if the phone controller bluetooth application will work with my D600.

All i see is that its using a nifty little remote. And the menues in imho look awfull over the video.

Still, it will be worth watching to see how it turns out.

That looks pretty nifty actually. Might have to have a play around with it. Although I really should finsih some of my other computer projects firrst.

I will eat my Gentoo t-shirt if Linux MCE actually works out of the box like described in the video and even turns your AV equipment automatically. Anyone who ever approached something like MythTV or Freevo on linux knows that anything to do with remotes, TV cards and bluetooth is pretty much like making stone bleed. Fair enough if you use most common hardware, but cut corner here and there, purchase something without checking revision or variation and boy, it's a swearfest..

Hope your shirt is small. :p

I've recently install ubuntu 6.10 and LinuxMCE has failed to install. Seems that it cannot download some packages required for the install.

Aint that the trith, ati drivers suck so thats just left me with the UI1 interface, when ati get the composite extension sorted i might try this.

Tried this again this morning on a fresh install of ubuntu 6.10 and it doesn't work out of the box. The LinuxMCE people do offer free support over Skype so I've added them and will see what they say.

Any news?
I read somewhere on Digg, that there is an app you need to install, to make the process much easier.
